The paper seeks to shows the conceptualizations of the concept of longing/yearningas understood by children at different stages of cognitive development; intellectually normalsix-year-old children and ten-year-old children with Down syndrome. The way of expressingthe emotion of longing depends on the cognitive abilities of the studied children. What emergesfrom them is subjective experience, individual viewpoints and the popular view of the world. Inboth groups of subjects we see differences in the construction (choice of aspects) of the semanticstructure of the concept, dissimilarities in the anthropocentric attitude towards reality andthe subjectivism of observations.

W artykule przedstawiono wypowiedzi 6-letnich dzieci na temat umiejscowienia wybranych emocji w ciele człowieka z punktu widzenia metodologii kognitywnej. Zebrany materiał językowy dowodzi, że dzieci w tym wieku, są nie tylko sprawnymi użytkownikami języka i budują swoje wypowiedzi zgodnie „z konwencjonalnym użyciem słowa”. Pokazuje także niepowtarzalną ekspresję słowną i emocjonalny stosunek do wygłaszanych tekstów.

The paper presents the ideas of six-year-old children concerning the location of selected emotions in the human body from the standpoint of cognitive methodology. The collected material shows that children at this age are not only efficient language users and they build their utterances in accordance with the “conventional usage of words”. It also shows their unique verbal expression and emotional attitude to their spoken texts.
