Celem publikacji jest analiza procesu związanego z rozwojem naukowym pracowników uczelni wyższych. Ścieżka kariery naukowej pracownika determinowana jest momentem uzyskania stopnia lub tytułu naukowego oraz obejmowaniem coraz wyższych w hierarchii naukowej stanowisk. Rozwój naukowy zależy od stopnia zaangażowania pracownika, przepisów prawa oraz polityki personalnej prowadzonej w uczelni. W celu utworzenia modelu rozwoju naukowego autorzy wykorzystali metody analizy przeżycia. Dane wykorzystane do analizy związane są z momentem uzyskania stopnia doktora habilitowanego oraz tytułu profesora przez pracowników Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego w Krakowie w latach 1970–2014.

The aim of the paper is to analyse the process associated with scientific development of faculty at institutions of higher learning. The career path of a member of faculty is determined by the scientific degree and titles he or she earns or by taking up consecutive positions at university. The development is determined by the faculty member’s personal involvement, regulations and the personnel policy of the university. In this paper, survival analysis was the main tool used to create a model of scientific development. The data used for the analysis concern PhD degrees earned and professorships conferred uponfaculty members at the University of Economicsin Cracow in the years 1970–2014.

Artykuł podejmuje kwestię efektywności polskiej nauki jako funkcji nakładów na badania i metod ewaluacji dorobku naukowego. Autor zwraca uwagę na zagrożenia wynikające z oparcia systemu ewaluacji dorobku naukowego na tzw. liście filadelfijskiej. Największym zagrożeniem jest transfer środków publicznych w formie dorobku naukowego do prywatnych korporacji wydawniczych. W gospodarce opartej na wiedzy nauka stanowi główny czynnik rozwoju gospodarki, dlatego państwo powinno stworzyć taki system ewaluacji dorobku naukowego, który będzie stymulował użyteczność badań naukowych w procesie rozwoju kraju i gospodarki.

The article presents the question of the effectiveness of the Polish science as a function of investment in research and evaluation methods of scientific achievements. The Author draws attention to the dangers of scientific achievements’ evaluation based on ISI Master Journal List. The biggest threat is the transfer of public funds in the form of scientific achievements to private publishing corporations. In the knowledge-based economy science is a major factor of economic development, which is why the state should establish a system of evaluation of scientific achievements, which will stimulate the usefulness of research in the development of the country and the economy.

Po zidentyfikowaniu głównych dyscyplin, w których mieści się refleksja naukowa E. A. Wesołowskiej, analizowano rozwój myśli andragogicznej, dydaktycznej i komparatystycznej zachowując układ chronologiczny i pokazując, jak te dyscypliny w jej rozwoju zawodowym i pracy naukowej się łączyły, uzupełniały i poszerzały swoje granice. Dorobku E. A. Wesołowskiej nie da się zamknąć w dyscyplinarnych granicach, ponieważ powstawał on w duchu refleksji ogólnohumanistycznej w trosce o człowieka, społeczeństwo i świat

The subject of the analysis are academic achievements of E. Anna Wesołowska (1929-2016). The article adopts a chronological and problem-oriented approach. After the initial identification of the main academic disciplines, to which we can assign E. Anna Wesołowska's ideas, the development of andragogical, didactic and comparative thought is analysed, maintaining the chronological order and illustrating how the disciplines of her professional development and academic work combined, complemented each other and expanded their boundaries. Academic achievements of E.A. Wesołowska cannot be limited to clear-cut definitions of academic disciplines as they were born in the spirit of general humanistic reflection, of concern of human being, society and the world.

Using the method of biographical research, analysis of documentation and participant observation, the analysis of scientific works, organizational and international ventures of APS Professor Franciszek Szlosek was presented, in the context of the development of Polish work pedagogy. Shaping the identity of the scientific subdiscipline – work pedagogy is discussed in the aspects of: the development of theory and methodology, development of scientific staff, teachers` education and training, development of vocational education.

On the basis of own biographic studies conducted between 2007 and 2009 and continued from 2013 to 2015 (analyses and interpretation of 70 biographies and autobiographies of known researchers), I proposed in my article and justifed a thesis that among the main factors dynamizing individual scientifc development, apart from intellectual attributes, are personality traits such as modesty. Scientifc development is fuelled mainly by values and the related character (or personality) traits of the researcher. I also put forward an assumption that scientifc development of researchers contributes to the progress in science understood as a sphere of culture. The attitude of modesty – the antonym of pride and megalomania is then especially required of a researcher and proves his or her predisposition to discovering the truth and to communicating the research results in an honest manner. Modesty also helps one choose an optimal style of research, which in turn leads to considerable discoveries.
