The court-martial judiciary of German Security Police, besides protective custody (Schutzhaft), was among the primary tools of occupier’s terror in General Gouvernement and in territories annexed by the Third Reich, including Ciechanów region (German: Regierungsbezirk Zichenau). Police court-martial (Polizeistandgericht) ruled most often death sentences, particularly against members of Polish resistance movement. Among its victims were also Polish citizens of Jewish ethnicity, illegally returning from the General Gouvernement. The court-martial acted in no accordance with the law, therefore its victims didn’t have right to appeal against its verdict. The criminal conduct of the court-martial in Regierungsbezirk Zichenau led to death of several hundreds of people.

Sądownictwo doraźne niemieckiej policji bezpieczeństwa było obok aresztu prewencyjnego (Schutzhaft), podstawowym narzędziem okupacyjnego terroru w Generalnym Gubernatorstwie oraz na ziemiach wcielonych do III Rzeszy, w tym na terenie rejencji ciechanowskiej (Regierungsbezirk Zichenau). Policyjny sąd doraźny (Polizeistandgericht) orzekał najczęściej wyrok kary śmierci, w szczególności w stosunku do osób przynależących do polskiego ruchu oporu. Jego ofiarami stali się również obywatele polscy pochodzenia żydowskiego, powracający nielegalnie z Generalnego Gubernatorstwa. Działalność sądu doraźnego nie miała nic wspólnego z prawem, jego ofiary nie miały żadnej możliwości odwołania się od jego wyroku. W wyniku zbrodniczej działalności sądu doraźnego na terenie rejencji ciechanowskiej śmierć poniosło kilkaset osób.
