The article deals with the analysis of asensory word perception shown by Anton Stremoukhov, the character in the novel A Gloom Is Cast Upon the Ancient Steps by Alexandr Chudakov. The character perceptsives aword with all his sensory organs. This attention to the words with all types of feelings involved results in aspecial range of emotional experience of the character. The article describes how the author shows Anton’s love tofor aword, his tendency to use wordplay, and create new words. In the novel the character’s childhood events, world view and fortune are determined by his special perception of aword. The article demonstrates that the subject of word perception becomes one of the leading lines in the novel A Gloom Is Cast Upon the Ancient Steps by Alexandr Chudakov.
