At every Eucharist the Church explains the revealed truths to the confessors. For this purpose it uses the ministers of the sacred mysteries. The content that is explained is, primarily, the true Word of God, because this is what constitutes one of the main sources of the Church doctrine. The second source is the Tradition. We owe liturgical prayers to it. Their present form is very different from the one which they had during the time of creation. The extraordinary cultural enrichment of the Church is based on activities aimed at reaching the sources from which there were derived the prayers used during the celebration. These actions aim to acquire knowledge of various ways of celebrating the same mystery that Christ commanded to celebrate to the whole Church. Through the knowledge of the sources, the believers in Christ can reach deeper into the jewel of the gifts of the Holy Spirit who is always present in the Church. Thematically the opening prayers bring the image of God, which is confessed by the Church and transmitted by means of the multi-century tradition as its greatest treasure, closer to the confessors. The purpose of the liturgical prayers of the Church is not just a verbal confession of faith, but also its verification in life that is identified with the existentially understood faith. Therefore it appears to be necessary for the faithful to know the history of the liturgical prayer, so that it can better contribute to the daily attitude of Christians.

Artykuł prezentuje teksty traktujące o wstawiennictwie Maryi zawarte w wybranych sakramentarzach: Sacramentarium Gelasianum, Sacramentarium Bergomense, Le sacramentaire Grégorien oraz Sacramentarium Veronese. Zadaniem artykułu jest analiza modlitw euchologijnych (kolekt, modlitw nad darami, prefacji i modlitw po Komunii), zamieszczonych w starożytnych księgach liturgicznych, w celu ukazania w nich wstawiennictwa Maryi. Przedstawione w artykule wyniki badań wykazały, iż w ogromnej większości sakramentarze traktują o wstawiennictwie Maryi. Ta wstawiennicza rola jest widoczna w różnych okresach roku liturgicznego i dotyczy najczęściej udziału Maryi w Boskim planie zbawienia. Nadto analiza prezentowanych tekstów ujawniła, iż sakramentarze te w historii Kościoła służyły jako materiał do redagowania ksiąg liturgicznych poświęconych Maryi.

The article presents texts dealing with the intercession of Mary contained in the selected sacramentaries: Sacramentarium Gelasianum, Sacramentarium Bergomense, Le sacramentaire Grégorien and Sacramentarium Veronese. The purpose of this article is to analyse euchological texts (opening prayers, prayers over the offerings, prefaces and prayers after Communion), contained in ancient liturgical books, in order to show in them the intercession of Mary. The results of research presented in the article revealed that the vast majority of sacra-mentaries treat of the intercession of Mary. This intercessory role is evident in different sea-sons of the liturgical year, and usually concerns Mary’s participation in the divine plan of salvation. Besides, the analysis of the presented texts has revealed that sacramentaries in the history of the Church used to serve as a material for composing liturgical books devoted to Mary.

The development of liturgical, especially Eucharistic rites, was suppo- sed to explain to the believers of Christ the essence of His Paschal Mistery. The rites were also helpful to the participants of the liturgy in entering through their faith into the mystery. Its most important point was a pri- vate and personal meeting with resurrected Christ in a sacramental com- munion. Liturgical texts were of great importance in this process. Sacra- mentaries were created from the early Middle Ages. They were collections of prayers for celebrants of Eucharist and other liturgical rites. They are a very important source of liturgical knowledge. They are also a significant testimony of faith of participants of liturgical rites in a real presence of Christ in these rites. The Church expresses Its faith in liturgical rites.

Thanksgiving is an important climate for the celebration of the Eucharist. The development of the Mass rites, from the breaking of bread in the apostolic times, through the medieval rites recorded in the sacramentaries, including the post-Tridentine Missal of Pius V, which unified Mass rites, up to the Missale Romanum of Paul VI of 1970, was carried out with the awareness that through them the participants of the liturgy were disposed to express gratitude to God for the work of creation, salvation, and sanctification. A special way of ex-posing the concrete saving interventions of God, especially the saving deeds of Christ, is the preface. It is an integral part of the celebration of the Eucharist. The multiplicity of the pref-ace, as many as 267 in the Sacramentary of Verona from the 7th century, as well as 100 in the Missal of Paul VI, testifies to the fact that the Church cares very much to revive the awareness of the great works of God, making present in the celebration of the paschal mystery of the incarnate Son of God. The present shape of the masses’ prefaces is rooted in Christian antiquity. The dialogi-cal nature of the preface prayer is also derived from that time.
