Trójkąt stał się geograficznym schematem Hiszpanii przynajmniej od czasów Orozjusza. Przeszedł następnie do kartografii średniowiecznej. Niniejszy artykuł analizuje 20 map, które powstały między rokiem 775 a 1300 i na których znajduje się ten właśnie schemat. 12 z nich pochodzi z Półwyspu Iberyjskiego, przy czym 9 to mapy typu Beatus. Legendy tych map są wpisane w kontekst geopolityczny epoki, w której powstawały. Można wręcz powiedzieć, że mapy tchną duchem rekonkwisty. Mapy te przyczyniły się do rozpowszechnienia schematu Hiszpanii w formie trójkąta w kartografii średniowiecznej Europy zachodniej. „Trójkąt hiszpański” stał się w ten sposób, obok trójkątnego schematu Sycylii, najbardziej rozpoznawalnym schematem kartograficznym w średniowieczu. Ułatwiał on odnalezienie Hiszpanii na mapach, stając się użyteczną graficzną pomocą mnemotechniczną.

The triangle has become a geographic scheme of Spain at least since the time of Orosius. He then went on to medieval cartography. This article analyzes 20 maps that were created between 775 and 1300 and on which this scheme is located. 12 of them come from the Iberian Peninsula, 9 being Beatus maps. The legends of these maps are inscribed in the geopolitical context of the time in which they were created. As a consequence, these maps contain the spirit of the Reconquest. Ultimately, these maps contributed to the dissemination of the Spanish scheme in the form of a triangle in the cartography of medieval Western Europe. The “Spanish Triangle” thus became, next to the triangular scheme of Sicily, the most recognizable cartographic scheme in the Middle Ages. It made it easier to find Spain on maps, becoming useful graphical mnemonic help.
