Brygida Kürbis, a medievalist from Poznań, who died in 2001, thanks to her publications, contributed a lot to increasing the importance of both editing medieval chronicles and source studies, which are auxiliary sciences of history. The author deliberately modified the postulated rules and principles of publishing written sources in editorial practice, depending on the type of released texts and publishing capabilities, changing over time.

Autorzy przedstawili założenia nowej edycji publikacji Życie książki autorstwa Jana Muszkowskiego. Opracowanie tekstu głównego tej publikacji wymagało skorzystania z szerokiego materiału badawczego i archiwalnego. Na takiej podstawie źródłowej została przygotowana edycja krytyczna, opatrzona wstępem naukowym, aparatem krytycznym i komentarzami. W dalszej części – na przykładzie przygotowanej do wydania pracy Życie książki – autorzy scharakteryzowali cele i motywy ponownego wydawania publikacji naukowych z 2. połowy XX w., sposoby oznaczania fragmentów przestarzałych, zdezaktualizowanych i niejasnych – w celu jak najpełniejszego odzwierciedlenia woli autora.

The authors present foundations of a new edition of Życie książki written in 1951 by Jan Muszkowski. The development of the main text of this publication required conducting extensive research and using many archival materials which helped prepare the critical edition with a scientific preface, a critical apparatus and comments. On this basis the authors characterize goals and motives for reediting scientific publications from the 2nd half of the 20th century, together with methods of tagging the outdated or obsolete fragments.

Celem artykułu jest opis działań modernizacyjnych, jakich – zdaniem autorki – może dokonywać edytor, opracowując prace Józefa Ignacego Kraszewskiego. W tekście opisano, które notacje można modyfikować, bowiem zmiana nie powoduje eliminacji cech idiostylu i idiolektu pisarza (np. zastąpienie litery małej wielką, pisowni rozdzielnej łączną czy poprawa interpunkcji), a które należy jednak pozostawić bez ingerencji (delimitacja tekstu, leksyka, fleksja, ortografia odzwierciedlająca rzeczywisty sposób artykulacji).

The aim of the article is to describe the modernization activities which, according to the author, can be made by the editor, while working on the texts of Józef Ignacy Kraszewski. The article shows which notations can be modified, as the change does not eliminate the idiostyle and idiolect of the writer (features such as replacing small letters by capital letters, replacing separable spelling by combined spelling or improved punctuation), and which should be left without interference (delimitation of text, lexis, inflection and spelling reflecting the actual articulation).
