Przedmiotem opracowania są relacje między funkcjonowaniem podmiotów sektora ekonomii społecznej a rozwojem lokalnym. Celem jest określenie, a także empiryczna weryfikacja, na przykładzie woj. podkarpackiego, roli sektora tzw. nowej ekonomii społecznej w rozwoju gospodarek lokalnych, na tym tle zaś nakreślenie wyzwań dla wykorzystania aktywności tego podsystemu gospodarki jako czynnika rozwoju lokalnego. Siłę oddziaływania tego sektora na procesy rozwoju lokalnego przybliżano, biorąc pod uwagę jego wybrane charakterystyki, takie jak: okres funkcjonowania, zasięg terytorialny, przestrzenne rozmieszczenie, trwałość oraz zdolność do odpowiadania na potrzeby lokalnej społeczności. Konfrontowano także rozmieszczenie podmiotów ekonomii społecznej w powiatach woj. podkarpackiego z występowaniem określonych problemów społecznych, takich jak np. długotrwałe bezrobocie, ubóstwo oraz wykluczenie z rynku pracy z powodu niepełnosprawności.

The relations between the functioning of the social economy sector and local socio- economic development are the subject of theoretical and empirical analyses examined in the study. The aim of this debate is to determine and empirically verify the role of the social economy sector in the development of local economies on the example of the Podkarpackie voivodeship, and against this background, to outline the challenges for using the activity of this subsystem of the economy as a factor for local development. The potential of this sector, considering its impact on local development processes, has been explained taking into account its selected characteristics, such as duration, territorial coverage, spatial distribution, sustainability and the ability to respond to the needs of local communities.
