In the source literature the concept of safety is variably defined, depending on the sphere and discipline of research science (sociology, economy, political sciences, security). The definitions of security most often stress the lack of threats, certainty and creating conditions for development, and the sense of security is viewed as a set of convictions, belief in possibility to obtain desired results. Sense of security is shaped i.a. under the influence of access to information and psychological factors that decide how a specific situation is perceived. In the analysis concerning the sense of security among the citizens of municipalities, references were made to the characteristics of local communities available in the source literature: shared territory, relations, common social interest, local sentiment and institutions called up to cater to the needs of citizens. Local institutions are responsible for shaping the following conditions: material well being, spiritual development, security and future perspectives, they cooperate in specific scope with state institutions, including the military units. These units act to ensure state security for the society in general and their location within given municipalities also strengthens local economic potential. The military units carry out defence and protective tasks, also engaging in relations with local entities in order to achieve this goal. Perception of the Army among the society, including its influence on the state security, is a subject of analyses conducted by various scientific institutions and research facilities, which includes the academy represented by the authors of the article. The issues presented in the paper are a continuation of the studies dealing with influence of the military units on local development in different aspects. Therefore the goal of the studies was formulated as follows: identifying influence of the military units on the sense of security among the citizens, specifying the concerns associated with presence of the military units within the municipalities and the assessment of the Army actions in a threat situation as well as assessment of the military units potential in the context of benefits resulting from presence within a municipality. In addition to other methods (analysis, synthesis) applied during the studies, the significant role was performed by the diagnostic poll method ñ CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interview). The studies aimed at collecting opinions of the citizens were carried out in November 2017 in urban municipalities: Braniewo, Brzeg, Chelmno, Hrubieszow, Slupsk and encompassed 600 participants selected proportionally to the total number of citizens in given municipalities. The respondents formulated opinions on the chosen aspects of security associated with presence of a military unit within their municipality. Moreover, the article refers to the results of the studies carried out by other authors and study results announced by the Public Opinion Research Center. The analysis was carried out with the use of computer programmes Excel and Statistica v. 13.1.

This paper shows the importance of broadly defined health security, illness prevention, and health education, in all possible stages of human life. The paper contains a description of the basic threats to human health security emanating from the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, the author deals extensively with the preventive qualities of educational activities in the development of a sense of human health security. The main idea of the paper demonstrates that health security during the coronavirus pandemic, together with a sense of calm and stagnation, have a fundamental impact on human well-being. All this is combined with the adoption of the appropriate attitudes, while at the same time determining the focus of the concentration of human activity, and therefore of human education, in the times of threats to health.

The aim of the article is to present and discuss the findings of research on a group of Internet addicts in the context of a sense of security. A growing interest in the issue of a sense of security, both from the socio-cultural and psychological perspective, is also reflected in the emergence of research on a sense of security among those who are at a high risk of Internet addiction. In Poland, this type of research is virtually non-existent so far. Its implementation and dissemination, coupled with the reflection thereon seems to be of paramount importance because of its wide practical implications: in the area of a therapeutic relationship, a healing process and prevention, as well as a deeper insight into the problems of Internet addicted patients. An interpretive analysis covered the results for 136 respondents, including: Internet addicts and those not addicted to the Internet, aged 18-39. The research involved male subjects only. Method. The research used the Sense of Security and Personal Resiliency Questionnaire (KPB-PO) by Zenon Uchnast and the Internet Addiction Test (IAT) by Kimberly Young. Results. There are differences in a sense of security of Internet addicts and non-addicts. Developing a sense of security can contribute to improving the functioning of people who are addicted to the Internet.

Metoda. W badaniach wykorzystano Kwestionariusz Poczucia Bezpieczeństwa i Prężności Osobowej (KPB-PO) autorstwa Zenona Uchnasta i Test Uzależnienia od Internetu K. Young (IAT). Wyniki.

Human safety perceived as a value is rarely discussed from an axiological and ethical perspective, remaining a rather peripheral subject of ethical and academic reflexion. Presently, in a reality of constant anxiety, it is worth rethinking the fact that safety as a value should find an appropriate place in serious anthropological, philosophical, axiological, and ethical reflexion as well as in the contemporary deliberations on culture and civilisation. One significant issue deserves special emphasis in the context, i.e. that any actions taken with a view to safeguarding individuals or entire communities cannot endanger other fundamental and indispensable human needs and values.

The research involved 240 women in early adulthood: single women (80 women), women in cohabitation (82 women) and married women (78 women). The study used The Questionnaire Sense of Security of Uchnast (1990) and the standardized interview for the study of involvement in relationships. Studies have shown the connection between the marital status of women and the level of interpersonal involvement (p = 0,001). The concept of security is presented ambiguously depending on the scientific discipline. From a sociological point of view, it means an objective state of no threat, integrally associated with subjective, emotional, psychological deprivation of space as safe, otherwise referred to as a sense of security. In turn, in legal terms, it means all conditions and social institutions protecting the state and citizens against phenomena dangerous to the legal order and to the life and health of citizens. From a psychological point of view, the need for security is one of the fundamental needs of both individual individuals and entire social groups. Its satisfaction provides a sense of confidence and a guarantee of lack or minimal risk threatening valuable values such as life, health, optimal living standards and material goods. Everyone, to fulfil their tasks assigned to the social role, must feel safe. This is particularly important in the case of people who, because of their profession, are supposed to protect security and other people, and such a professional group is the Prison Service. The paper presents the results of the research carried out using the Uchanst’s Sense of Security Questionnaire of the Confederation of National Defence among officers of the Prison Service who undergo vocational training at the Central Training Centre of the Prison Service in Kalisz. The research has shown a optimal level of general sense of security and factors which make up the sense of security syndrome, which is, the sense of closeness, stability and mutual trust.

Tourism has become a common phenomenon, very important for various reasons, especially for developing regions and countries, and which in consequence has been perceived as positive. However, increasingly commonly works have cast a slightly different look. Tourism leads to a temporarily increased number of people in a relatively small area, and contributes to the introduction of ‘strangers’ to local communities which can lead to problems such as crime. On the other hand, a higher risk of being a victim may lead to the reduced attractiveness of a given destination. A small number of studies in this field draw attention to this, concentrating on a general outline of their interdependence but specific urban tourist areas are rarely the subject of research. This review covers various works on the relationship between tourism and crime.

Some psychologists believe that there is some correlation between gender or the choice of a university and religiousness of an individual, the intensity of the effects of a religious experience, coping with stress and a sense of security. It is also thought that many factors such, as the background of a person, their upbringing, their religious attitude, maturity and sense of security can have an influence on the intensity of religious experiences over life. Research was carried out in a group of 150 students. All of them described themselves as believers and did report religious experiences in their lives. 134 properly filled in questionnaires were used for the analysis. There were 33 men from the University of Economy, 37 men from the Forestry Faculty of the Academy of Agriculture, 32 women from Ignatianum University in Krakow and 32 women from Vocational High School in Nowy Sącz. The age of the subjects was within the range of 22 to 25 years. The author of the article, interested in the issues of the sense of security, coping with stress and religious experiences of the students of various universities has tried to answer the following questions: Does the independent variable, gender differentiate (influence) the level of the sense of security, the effects of religious experiences of God’s presence or absence, and coping with stress? Which of the independent variables identified in Ways of Coping Questionnaire (and to what extent) have an influence on the dependent variables; the sense of effects of the experience of God’s presence (OB) and the sense of effects of the experience of God’s absence (NOB)? The results show that gender has a definite influence on differentiation of the dependent variables. It should be emphasised that when the regression analysis is applied one can notice that essential independent variables of religious character have the most tangible influence on the dependent variables. However, mainly the former ones decide about the intensity of religious experiences of an individual.

The aim of this article is the theoretical analysis of the situation of an individual existing in contemporary socio-cultural reality in the context of identity dilemmas, trust and risk. Considerations have been made about the nature of such categories as trust, risk, anxiety, and a sense of ontological security. This is not without significance for the quality of the condition of modern man, which also implies the need for the reconsideration of and pedagogical activities in the field of education and socialization of individuals participating in contemporary socio-cultural reality.

A sense of security and public order in Poland is in the hands of the Department of Interior and Administration, where analyses of possibilities of occurrence of crime are carried out based mainly on the Police data. The findings are used to prevent and combat crime in a more effective way. Preventive actions are crucial in this respect e.g. development of relevant programmes and strategies, as well as tasks for units subordinated and supervised by the competent Minister of the Interior. The above mentioned effectiveness is also influenced by cooperation with institutions and organisations dealing with various aspects of crime prevention at the national and international level. While assessing crime, efficiency of the police activities as far as crime prevention and combat, statistical data including particular crime offences that determine time and place are useful. The statistics is the key element in determination of perpetrators’ actions. It is also an indicator of activities performed by individual Police units, inter alia by adequate (at place and time) services deployment (preventive and criminal ). Based on crime statistical data, one may possess knowledge of the desired Police operations, and social demands. On one hand, the analysis of statistical data related to crime and examination of the sense of security felt by Polish citizens, is one of the evaluation methods of the activities of the Polish Police forces; on the other, it offers a number of paths in the search for solutions concerning prevention and fight against crime. The indicated analyses including data interpretation are supposed to raise awareness concerning the phenomenon of crime in Poland, and demonstrate changes over years with respect to security and public order, as well as social assessment of the Police activity.

The article presents the level of security as perceived by Wrocław inhabitants. The conducted research revealed that Wrocław is a safe city in the opinion of Wrocław residents. The threats that are perceived as primary are the natural threats, in particular a flood. However, the most probable phenomena taking place in the direct surrounding are fights and the problem of drug addiction. A very important indicator is also the need of social education about security exceeding the standard scope that discusses the principles of reacting in the case of a threat occurrence.
