Artykuł prezentuje panoramę współczesnych zjawisk w sferze relacji międzyludzkich, szczególnie matrymonialnych i rodzinnych, zachodzących w japońskim społeczeństwie. Zjawiska te znacząco wpływają zarówno na jakość życia współczesnych mieszkańców Japonii, jak i na takie obszary jak demografia czy gospodarka. Opisane problemy zasadniczo wyrastają z kryzysu w relacjach między mężczyznami a kobietami, co jest wynikiem ogólnoświatowych przemian społecznych i gospodarczych, zmian sytuacji społecznej kobiet, innych oczekiwań mężczyzn i kobiet wobec siebie nawzajem, oraz ograniczonych możliwości realizacji tych oczekiwań. Przedstawiono także szereg kulturowych i społecznych fenomenów, będących odpowiedzią na owe kryzysy i zmiany, odzwierciedlających elementarne, choć niezaspokojone potrzeby i pragnienia, objawiających się na bardzo specyficzne, choć głównie niepokojące, sposoby.

The article presents the panorama of the contemporary phenomena in the area of interpersonal relationships, especially matrimonial and family ones, in the Japanese society. These phenomena considerably influence the quality of life of the Japanese, as well as on demography and the economy of the country. Described problems stem from the crisis of the male-female relationships, which is the result of global social and economic changes, changes of the social position of women, disparate expectations of men and women towards each other, and the limited possibilities of fulfilling these expectations. The article describes many of the cultural and social phenomena, which are the answers for crisises and changes. These phenomena reflect basic but unfulfilled needs and wishes, which manifest in very specific ways.
