The paper raises two issues. Firstly, it explains the reasons why informal economy provides opportunities for functioning of companies and labor force that are marginalized in the formal sector. Secondly, it deals with the conditions under which regulatory mechanisms in the underground economy act effectively. Special attention is paid to the existing networks of social ties.

Celem artykułu jest próba wyjaśnienia dwóch kwestii. Pierwsza dotyczy przyczyn, dla których szara strefa stanowi przestrzeń dającą szanse na funkcjonowanie zmarginalizowanym na formalnym rynku firmom i zasobom siły roboczej. Druga dotyczy warunków skutecznego działania mechanizmów regulacyjnych na tym obszarze. Wiodąca rola zostaje tu przyznana istniejącej sieci powiązań społecznych.
