The education towards the job of a social employee requires the learning of specific knowledge that ensures the interdisciplinary and versatile preparation of a future professional. In this aspect, social projects are of particular importance as due to their multitasking requirements they stimulate student activity, allow for the combination of knowledge with action and activate reflexive behaviour, which allows for the evaluation of the designed activities. The preparation and implementation of projects are related to the necessity to assume a number of roles, creating the opportunity to test oneself in new activities and to determine the degree of self-readiness to do/perform the job. The aim of the article is to highlight the educational values of designing and presenting the structure of social projects realized at the Social Work Unit at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Silesia. The text also points out the difficulties that occur during the specific stages of project work and provides tips in order to avoid such difficulties.

The aim of this study is to present, on the basis of a case study of the Konopiska municipality, to what extent social assistance centres can use the social project to raise the parents’ care and educational competence and to promote correct parental attitudes. The article will discuss in detail the projects implemented by the Municipal Social Welfare Centre in Konopiska in the last eight years, including the project entitled „Rodzice na medal” („Perfect Parents”) which is the author’s bachelor’s thesis. In order for people experiencing problems related to parenthood to be able to obtain comprehensive assistance and professional knowledge, various types of special-ists were hired during the implemented projects, including a psychologist, pedagogue, dietitian, addiction thera-pist and sexologist. An important role in the projects was, of course, played by social workers, whose task was to conduct recruitment of parents and motivating them to actively participate in classes. Social workers also coop-erated with other institutions working for the benefit of the family in order to reach the largest possible number of people in need of strengthening the care and educational potential. The presented activities can be recom-mended as „good practice” and a voice in the discussion on the shape of social work with dysfunctional families and families experiencing difficulties in raising a child. The information contained in the article comes from project documentation, including applications for co-financing, reports on the implementation of tasks and correspondence exchanged between the Konopiska municipality and institutions providing subsidies.

The article presents the theoretical justification and analysis of volunteering activities as a way to professional self-determination of a future social worker. It was determined that for a harmonious development of a future social worker and awareness of a first-year student of his/her professional realization it is necessary: to participate actively in volunteering activities (organizing and conducting fundraisers, special assistance, animators actions); personal assistance in finding and transferring funds to people who need them (search for sponsors, patrons, caring people); creation and implementation of scientific-practical projects in social work; fulfilment of such functions as a mentor, an assistant (for people, groups, societies, and associations) as required. The study used the following research methods: theoretical (analysis of scientific and methodological literature on the problems of defining the professional competence of a social worker and aspects of volunteering activities to find out the state of elaboration of the researched problem and definition of concepts and categories; generalization and prediction in the formulation of conclusions and rationale of volunteering activities as a way of professional self-determination of a future social worker); empirical (pedagogical supervision over the organization of volunteering activities and professional skills of future social workers). It is proved that a social worker, as any other person can perform the functions of the volunteer, but he/she does it professionally, which corresponds the education he/she gained. It is indicated that volunteer participation in the social life of the Institute, city, country, provides professional self-determination, personal fulfillment, and moral-spiritual development of the student’s individual and enables him/her to feel a competent, important, needed, fulfilled professional. On the perspective ofongoing academic research, we would like to mention that the social project “Make a child’s dream real” will continue to its full extent according to volunteers’ organizational capabilities and the involvement capacities of the new participants to broaden the direction of the students’ volunteerism. For today there are creative students’ sketches of social ad being worked out, for the purpose of drawing attention to problems of kids with cancer and help to patients of hematological department of Kirovograd regional pediatric hospital.

Social work, specifically being grounded in the social-pedagogical tradition, has been critical of social reality from the very beginning. This criticism is rarely based on the concepts of governmentality (Michel Foucault) and educationalization (postfoucaldian discourse). The application of these theoretical contexts enables autocritical analysis of social work, and also exposes both social processes that structure social work (educationalization, neo-liberalization) as well as ways being used by this profession to govern service users. This opens both the discussion on the social role of social work and social pedagogy (subordination or emancipation) and the question of the social role of social work and social pedagogy (subordination or emancipation) and their attitude to social control. The practice can be oriented onto dominant discourses and the usage of social work to educate this part of society that for various reasons is not directly influenced by the discourses (pedagogization). It may also, in reference to the critical tradition of social pedagogy, lead to such a reframing of basic concepts and methods of social work that support of non-neoliberal local traditions of social order construction might be possible.
