Progressive globalization and commercialization have had influence on the functioning of football enterprises. As a result the mode of action of those companies that today are more focused on the pursuit of equivalent of economic and sporting purposes has been changed. The development of actors appearing in the German 1.Bundesliga would not be possible without internal and external sources of financing. Among the most important ones are revenue derived from the organization matches, sponsorship and selling of media rights. It is also necessary to achieve numerous infrastructure investments by football enterprises owing to funds sourced from banking sector (mainly long-term loans). The result of the investment was the development of the necessary infrastructure – stadiums and training centres. Thus, the quality of the product that is offered i.e. football match, improved the range of services offered to consumers and sporting spectacle increased. Avoiding an excessive risk, diversification and professionalization of business and reasonable managers decisions led to a situation in which: a) since 2010 ownership of capital has exceeded liabilities, b) most of the subjects have achieved a positive financial result, c) turnover in 1. Bundesliga has regularly increased.

Celem artykułu jest praktyczna aplikacja koncepcji oceny dojrzałości modeli biznesowych na podstawie postrzeganego przez przedsiębiorcę stopnia rozwoju poszczególnych elementów modelu wpływających na tworzenie wartości dla klienta i zapewniających czerpanie korzyści z tej wartości. Do zidentyfikowania determinant dojrzałości modelu biznesowego wykorzystano wyniki badania ankietowego przeprowadzonego za pośrednictwem DELab UW na grupie respondentów, obejmujących start-upy oraz starsze przedsiębiorstwa (scale-up). W artykule zdiagnozowano wpływ wieku (fazy cyklu życia) firmy, sposobu komercjalizacji, dostępności źródeł finansowania oraz elementów kapitału intelektualnego na dojrzałość modelu biznesowego badanych przedsiębiorstw. W strukturze grupy również udział przedsiębiorstw wykorzystujących w działalności wyniki prac badawczo-rozwojowych (zarówno spośród start-up, jak i scale-up) wynosi 50%, co pozwoliło zbadać wpływ sposobu komercjalizacji i elementów kapitału intelektualnego na dojrzałość modeli biznesowych badanych podmiotów.

The goal of this article is the practical application of the concept of assessment of the maturity of a business model on the basis of the degree of development of the individual model elements that have an impact on creating value for the customer and guaranteeing benefits from that value as perceived by the entrepreneur. The results of a questionnaire-based survey as conducted through DELab of the University of Warsaw1 on a group of respondents encompassing start-ups as well as older companies (scale-ups) are presented in order to identify the determinants of the maturity of the business model. The article diagnoses the influence of age (phase in the lifecycle) of the company, its method of commercialization, accessibility of sources of financing, and elements of intellectual capital on the maturity of the business model of the investigated companies. The group structure included companies utilizing the results of research and development efforts in their operations (both start-ups and scale-ups). They accounted for 50%, which made it possible to examine the impact of method of commercialization and intellectual capital elements on the maturity of the business models of the surveyed entities.
