Celem artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na potrzebę podjęcia działań mających na celu poprawę i wzmocnienie rozwoju obszarów metropolitalnych. Jednym z kluczowych działań jest wspólne i partnerskie planowanie przestrzenne obszaru metropolitalnego. Przykładami takich działań jest współpraca samorządu województwa pomorskiego z lokalnymi władzami obszaru metropolitalnego, czego rezultatem jest pierwszy w Polsce Plan Zagospodarowania Przestrzennego Obszaru Metropolitalnego Gdańska – Gdyni – Sopotu 2030.

The aims of article is to draw attention to the need to undertake activities which improve and strengthen metropolitan areas development. One of the key actions is a common and partnership spatial planning of metropolitan area. Examples of such activities is the cooperation between the Pomorskie regional self-government and local authorities of the metropolitan area, which results is the first in Poland The Spatial Development Plan of Metropolitan Area of Gdansk – Gdynia – Sopot 2030.
