Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie oraz wyjaśnienie podłoża rozwoju i ekspansji islamskich finansów i bankowości. Artykuł można podzielić na dwie główne części. W pierwszej (w 2. rozdziale) dokonano wyjaśnienia źródeł pochodzenia finansów islamskich; a także wskazano czynniki mające wpływ na powstanie pierwszych zorganizowanych struktur oraz dalszą ekspansję finansów i bankowości islamskiej. Następnie w drugiej części artykułu (w 2., 3. oraz 4. rozdziałach) opisano ryzyka typowe dla islamskich instytucji finansowych oraz dalsze perspektywy rozwoju tego sektora w ich kontekście, jak również w kontekście szans stwarzanych przez unikalność tego sektora. Artykuł pokazuje odrębność sektora finansów i bankowości islamskiej od jego konwencjonalnego odpowiednika, co spowodowane jest jego unikalnym uwarunkowaniom prawnym, specyficznym dla niego ryzykom oraz religią, z którą finanse islamskie są mocno związane.

The goal of this paper is to familiarize and examine reasons of Islamic finance development and expansion. Paper can be divided in two main parts in which the first one (chapter 1) is an explanation of the Islamic finance and banking origins; indication of the factors which have a crucial meaning for the creation of first structures and their further expansion. The second part of the paper (chapters 2, 3 and 4) describe the associated risks, which are typical for this market segment and also opportunities which are arising due to unique structure of Islamic finance and banking sector. Paper indicates that the Islamic finance and banking is a separate market sector which differs from the conventional banking sector thanks to its unique legal requirements, specific risks and religion on which the Islamic finance and banking is based on.
