The author points at the fact that the existing research into multiculturalism and the effects of the present ideology of multiculturalism necessitate a new concept concerning the culture of knowledge about oneself and the others, which can and should be undertaken by currently developing intercultural education. What is indicated in the text are the norms which guide intercultural education in the unceasing process of shaping cultural education. Among other things, these are: to learn in order to be oneself, to experience Others and to be able to act together, to know about oneself and Others.In this context, the author presents the tasks of intercultural education which are associated with shaping some currents in the development of man and human culture. These comprise: the current of tradition and regional culture (the current related to the acquisition of family-local-parish identity), the current of national cultures and of shaping national identity, the current of state culture (concerning the creation of citizen bonds with the state), the current of (inner and outer) cultural and civilization dialogue (the current which shapes multidimensional individual and social identity) and the current of symmetric enculturation, which also results from worldwide mobility and migration moves.Translated by Agata Cienciała

Autor zwraca uwagę, że z dotychczasowych badań nad wielokulturowością i skutków funkcjonującej ideologii wielokulturowości wynika potrzeba wypracowania nowej koncepcji kultury wiedzy o sobie i innych, co może i powinna podjąć rozwijająca się obecnie edukacja międzykulturowa. Wskazuje na normy, którymi kieruje się edukacja międzykulturowa, w ustawicznym procesie kształtowania tożsamości kulturowej. Są to między innymi: uczyć się, aby być sobą, doświadczać Innych i potrafić działać wspólnie, wiedzieć o sobie i Innych. W kontekście powyższego przedstawia zadania edukacji międzykulturowej związane z kreowaniem kilku nurtów rozwoju człowieka i jego kultury. Nurt tradycji i kultury regionalnej, inaczej nurt związany z nabywaniem tożsamości rodzinno-lokalno-parafialnej, nurt kultur narodowych i kształtowania się tożsamości narodowej, nurt kultury państwowej, dotyczący kreowania więzi obywatelskich z państwem, nurt dialogu kulturowego i cywilizacyjnego (wewnętrznego i zewnętrznego), inaczej, nurt kreujący wielopłaszyznową tożsamość jednostkową i społeczną oraz nurt symetrycznej akulturacji, między innymi jako wynik mobilności i ruchów migracyjnych na świecie.
