Teoria zależności (dependencji) jest jednym z najistotniejszych osiągnięć myśli latynoamerykańskiej, ze względu na wniesiony wkład do nauki o stosunkach międzynarodowych, ekonomii politycznej, jak i teorii rozwoju. Wprawdzie podejście to swój renesans miało w latach sześćdziesiątych i siedemdziesiątych XX wieku, lecz nie straciło swoich walorów w wyjaśnianiu regionalnych stosunków międzynarodowych i wciąż cieszy się uznaniem wśród części badaczy. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest pokazanie związków pomiędzy kapitalizmem zależnym a państwem w Ameryce Łacińskiej oraz przedstawienie kilku istotnych dla nich kategorii. Będę starał się wykazać, że latynoamerykańska zależność dostrzegalna była i jest niemal we wszystkich aspektach funkcjonowania państwa. Artykuł ma charakter wprowadzenia do problematyki rozwoju zależnego w Ameryce Łacińskiej. Analizowane są w nim następujące kwestie: istota kapitalizmu zależnego w regionie, elity latynoamerykańskie a problem zależności, przejawy zależności w Ameryce Łacińskiej. Ostatnia część artykułu podsumowuje wcześniejsze rozważaniaoraz wyjaśnia przyczyny i złożoność zależności.

The Dependency theory is one of the most important achievements of the Latin American thought, because of its contribution to the studies on international relations, political economy and development theory. Although this approach was thriving in the sixties and seventies of the 20th century, it has not lost its accuracy in explaining the matter of regional international relations and still enjoys a reputation among some researchers. The aim of the article is to show the relationship between dependent capitalism and state in Latin America and to present a few of several important categories. I will try to prove that Latin American dependency was and is visible in almost all aspects of the economy and state. The article is an introduction to the problem of dependent development in Latin American countries. The issues which are analyzed in the article are as follows: the importance of dependent capitalism in the region, Latin American elites and the problem of dependency, manifestations of dependency in Latin America. The final part of the article summarizes the problems mentioned above and explains the reasons of their complexity. Last but not least, the article signalizes difficulties a “dependency” notion may pose.
