Artykuł dotyczy teoretycznych podstaw systemu wymiany obrazkowej PECS (Picture Exchange Communicatiom System). System PECS jest przykładem wspomagających i alternatywnych metod komunikacji – AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), może stanowić zarówno wspomagający, jak i alternatywny system komunikacji. Strategia postępowania dla systemu PECS oparta jest na prawidłach stosowanej analizy zachowania – ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis), podejściu zachowań werbalnych (verbal behavior) i założeniach Piramidowego Podejścia do Nauczania (Piramid Approach to Education). Ugruntowanie teoretyczne systemu PECS jest poparte wynikami badań naukowych prowadzonych w nurcie stosowanej analizy zachowania. Weryfikacja koncepcji teoretycznej poprzez empirię stanowi o sile efektywności metody PECS.

The article deals with the theoretical foundations of the PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System). The PECS is an example of supporting and alternative methods of communication – AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), it can be both a supportive and alternative communication system. The strategy of acting for the PECS is based on the principles of applied behavior analysis – ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis), the verbal behavior approach and the assumptions of the Pyramid Approach to Education. Theoretical consolidation of the PECS is supported by the results of scientific research conducted in the field of applied behavior analysis. Verification of the theoretical concept through empiricism is the strength of the PECS method.

The aim of this article is to present the application of an applied behaviour analysis procedure to reduce anxiety reactions in individuals on the autism spectrum. An analysis of the effects of applying this procedure reducing was carried out: anxiety reactions in individuals on the autism spectrum, the teaching of desired behaviours when exposed to an anxiety stimulus and the maintenance of the effects of the measures taken after therapy is presented.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie zastosowania procedury stosowanej analizy zachowania w celu redukcji reakcji lękowych u osób ze spektrum autyzmu. Dokonano analizy efektów zastosowania tej procedury: zmniejszenie reakcji lękowych u osób ze spektrum autyzmu, nauczenie zachowań pożądanych w sytuacji kontaktu z bodźcem lękowym oraz utrzymanie efektów podjętych działań po zakończeniu terapii.
