Background. The aim of the study was to analyze the phenomenon of stress among physical education teachers. Material and methods. A search of databases EBSCOhost and Virtual Library of Science. A review of the literature using the terms (keywords) “stress”, “stress of physical education teachers”. Results. There is a lot of research showing that teaching is a very stressful activity (Dunham, 1976; Fejgin et al., 1995; Kyriacou i Sutcliffe, 1987a, b). No single, specific research tool was found in diagnostic tests on the stress of physical education teachers. Most of the research on the phenomenon of teachers’ stress is generally focused on teachers, there is little research on the stress of physical education teachers. The conducted research on the stress of physical education teachers concern factors that cause stress. The most important stressors in the physical education teacher’s profession are: low earnings and prestige of the profession, lack of a base to carry out the classes, inappropriate attitude of the school management to teachers, poor organization of work at school, treatment of physical education as a worse subject than others, lack of certainty of further employment or necessity taking extra paid work. Conclusions. In connection with the risks of stress, it is necessary for the individual as well as for children and adolescents to systematically monitor the phenomenon of stress among physical education teachers.

Cel badań. Celem badań była analiza zjawiska stresu wśród nauczycieli wychowania fizycznego. Materiał i metody. Przeszukano bazy danych EBSCOhost i Wirtualnej Biblioteki Nauki. Dokonano przeglądu literatury wykorzystującej terminy (słowa kluczowe) „stres”, „stres nauczycieli wychowania fizycznego”. Wyniki. Istnieje wiele badań świadczących o tym, iż nauczanie jest bardzo stresującym zajęciem (Dunham, 1976; Fejgin i in., 1995; Kyriacou i Sutcliffe, 1987a, b). Nie znaleziono jednego, konkretnego narzędzia badawczego w badaniach diagnostycznych na temat stresu nauczycieli wychowania fizycznego. Większość badań nad zjawiskiem stresu nauczycieli skupia się ogólnie na nauczycielach, mało jest badań dotyczących stresu występującego u nauczycieli wychowania fizycznego. Prowadzone badania nad stresem nauczycieli wychowania fizycznego dotyczą czynników powodujących stres. Najistotniejszymi stresorami w zawodzie nauczyciela wychowania fizycznego są: niskie zarobki i prestiż zawodu, brak bazy do realizacji zajęć, niewłaściwy stosunek dyrekcji szkoły do nauczycieli, zła organizacja pracy w szkole, traktowanie wychowania fizycznego jako przedmiotu gorszego od innych, brak pewności dalszego zatrudnienia czy też konieczność podejmowania dodatkowej pracy zarobkowej. Wnioski. W związku z zagrożeniami, jakie niesie ze sobą stres, zarówno dla samej jednostki, jak i dzieci i młodzieży konieczne jest systematyczne monitorowanie zjawiska stresu wśród nauczycieli wychowania fizycznego.
