Duchowa wartość pracy nauczyciela akademickiego

The article focusses on the spiritual value of an academic work, with the term “spiritual” being understood twofold: in a wider and a narrower sense. In the reference to the former meaning, several aspects have been highlighted: moral, personality-related, educational, etc. In a narrower sense, however, references to Christian spirituality have been made, specifically, it discusses academic work as an implementation of the Christian virtue of love, a vocation and a path to holiness. The final part of the article has been devoted to spiritual threats stemming from both, scientific and didactic work at the university. Therefore, it is not so much an attempt to answer the question as to what kind of a lecturer should one be in order to allow the students to benefit as much as possible, but what kind of a spiritual benefit that professional path allows for an academic themselves and to what extent it helps them to develop personally and spiritually.

Artykuł podejmuje temat duchowej wartości pracy na uczelni, przy czym określenie „duchowy” zostało podzielone na dwie kategorie: szerszą i węższą. W odniesieniu do tej pierwszej artykuł zaznacza kilka aspektów: moralny, osobowościowy, edukacyjny itd., natomiast w znaczeniu węższym, odnoszącym się do duchowości chrześcijańskiej, artykuł podejmuje temat pracy na uczelni jako realizację chrześcijańskiej cnoty miłości, powołania i drogi do świętości. Ostatnia część poświęcona jest zagrożeniom duchowym płynącym z pracy naukowej i dydaktycznej na uczelni. Jest to zatem nie tyle próba odpowiedzi na pytanie, jakim wykładowcą należy być, aby studenci odnieśli jak największy pożytek, lecz jaki pożytek duchowy dla samego wykładowcy niesie ten rodzaj ścieżki zawodowej i w jakim stopniu jest dla niego również drogą osobistego rozwoju duchowego.

The human being is in the centre of John Paul II’s discussion of work. There is no work without a human being. The personalized attitude to work is in line with the ethics of work because labor or the capital employed must contribute to the benefit of humanity. The ethics of work highlights the value attached to the worker. Theology of work cannot exist without recognizing the subjective dimension of work. Work ethic is centered around man because of his and his fellowmen’s good, thus saving the worker from being abstracted from work. Work that is devoid of moral sense becomes pointless as it loses its social meaning and develops into a source of socio-economic problems.
