Bliss & Frantzen’s (1976) paper against the previously assumed textual integrity of Resignation has been a watershed in research upon the poem. Nearly all subsequent studies and editions have followed their theory, the sole dissenting view being expressed by Klinck (1987, 1992). The present paper offers fresh evidence for the textual unity of the poem. First examined are codicological issues, whether the state of the manuscript suggests that a folio might be missing. Next analysed are the spellings of Resignation and its phonology, here the paper discusses peculiarities which both differentiate Resignation from its manuscript context and connect the two hypothetical parts of the text. Then the paper looks at the assumed cut-off point at l.69 to see if it may provide any evidence for textual discontinuity. Finally the whole Resignation, seen as a coherent poem, is placed in the history of Old English literature, with special attention being paid to the traditions of devotional texts and the Old English elegies.

The aim of this study is to describe and examine eight typescript variants of Ludvík Vaculík’s novel Czech Dreambook. The analysis is part of the textological preparation for the forthcoming two-volume edition of Czech Dreambook in the Czech Library. It presents hitherto unanalysed and for the most part unknown typescript material, which provides a unique insight into the genesis of the text. The study shows the strategies used by the author in the reworking process and notes the variable extent of the documentary features.

The article is devoted to the description of calligraphic notes of F.M. Dostoevsky as found in his notebooks, which came into being during his work on the novel Crime and Punishment. The notes were not included in the author’s complete works edition (Leningrad 1972-1990), however they play an important role in the formation of meanings crucial to building the plot and message of the novel. In the present text, the material has been used in the form of facsimiles. Dostoevsky’s calligrams have also been interpreted in the context of the given page of the notes (explaining the meanings of their neighbouring annotations), as well as in the wider context of the author’s work in the 1860s.

Artykuł składa się z dwóch części. Pierwsza obejmuje prezentację zbiorów Archiwum Włodzimierza Odojewskiego w Poznaniu i refleksję nad metodą twórczą pisarza, a druga przedstawia zarys perspektyw badawczych w dziedzinie krytyki genetycznej, które otwierają zgromadzone w tymże archiwum materiały. Autorzy zastanawiają się nad tym, jak można badać maszynopisy i rękopisy pisarza oraz jak powinno się opracowywać je edytorsko, mając na uwadze indywidualny sposób pracy Odojewskiego.

The article consists of two parts. The first includes a presentation of the records collected in the Archive of Włodzimierz Odojewski in Poznań and a reflection on the writer’s creative method. The second part presents an outline of research prospects in the field of genetic criticism, which opens materials gathered in that archive. The authors discussed how to study typescripts and manuscripts of the writer and how editors should prepare them, bearing in mind Odojewski’s specific work method.
