W pracy zaprezentowano badania dotyczące analizy studni miejskiej zlokalizowanej Na płycie rynku w Bieruniu. Z realizowane zostały w kontekście postrzegania jej jako elementu szczególnego w otoczeniu, posiadającego znamiona wyjątkowości i unikatowości wynikające z ważności i różnorodności wpisanych w nią treści – ideografii – które wpłynęły na jej powstanie. Ślady aktywności człowieka, zawierające się w jej strukturze funkcjonalno – przestrzennej, odczytano na następujących płaszczyznach: kultury, sztuki, historii, techniki oraz zmian zachodzących w środowisku przyrodniczym pod wpływem działalności człowieka i działań natury. Stwierdzono, że studnia jest wyróżnikiem miejsca lokalizacji, nośnikiem informacji historycznych i kulturowych. Jest obiektem małej architektury, który poprzez dominującą na niej grupę rzeźbiarską Utopców, w sposób zmaterializowany wprowadza w jedną z najważniejszych przestrzeni publicznych miasta – rynek – legendy i podania przekazywane z pokolenia na pokolenie. Może być także odbierana/odczytywana na płaszczyźnie swoistej syntezy, upamiętnienia nieistniejących i/lub zdegradowanych obiektów budowlanych oraz cech środowiska naturalnego i jego przekształceń.

The publication presents an analysis of the urban well located in the town square in Bieruń. This analysis has been completed in the context of perceiving it as a special monument in the environment. The well has the character of exceptionality and uniqueness resulting from the importance and diversity of the inscribed content – ideography, which influenced its creation. The traces of human activity contained in its functional–spatial structure were analysed on the following levels: culture, art, history and technology. The above traces were also analysed as changes occurring in the natural environment under the influence of human activity and nature activities. It was found that the well is a distinguishing feature of the location, a carrier of historical and cultural information. It is an object of small architecture, which through its dominant sculptural group of ‘The Drowners’, visibly introduces into one of the most important public spaces of the city – the t own square. The legends and stories of ‘ The Drowners” are passed down from generation to generation. The well can also be perceived as a commemoration of non-existent and / or degraded buildings and the characteristics of the natural environment and its transformations on the level of specific synthesis.
