In 1899 and 1907, Polish patriotic circles contacted well-known European and American intellectuals and politicians, asking them to express themselves on the subject of independence for Poland, which was then divided between Russia, Prussia and Austria. Emile Durkheim responded to both requests. The present article comments on these mostly unknown texts by Durkheim. The replies sent by Ferdinand Tönnies, Vilfredo Pareto and other scholars in the social sciences are also briefly discussed.

The article presents the discussions and voting of the titular representative bodies on the Polish issue in 1918. Analysis of transcripts of speeches and parliamentary discussions as well as their summaries and press debates showed that the issue of rebuilding the Polish state was considered by the parliaments of Prussia and the Reich in autumn of 1918 to have been decided, while issues that remained open included the degree of independence afforded to Poland, its attitude towards Germany and the shape of the Polish-German border. Both parliamentary forums provided politicians with an opportunity to present a broad, diversified spectrum of views on the Polish question.

Rosyjska polonistyka historyczna xix wieku jako część rosyjskiej slawistyki Artykuł przedstawia krótki przegląd historii rosyjskiej polonistyki historycznej XIX wieku, która była częścią składową rosyjskiej slawistyki, lecz funkcjonowała na innych zasadach, odzwierciedlających dynamikę wzajemnych stosunków polsko-rosyjskich. Zwrócono szczególną uwagę na wyjątkowe warunki powstawania i rozwoju rosyjskiej polonistyki historycznej, co pozwoliło na uszczegółowienie przyjętej wcześniej periodyzacji tej dyscypliny. W artykule zaznaczono, charakterystyczną dla dziewiętnastowiecznej Rosji, jednak dopiero niedawno znajdującą swoje miejsce we współczesnej historiografii myśl o współzależności miedzy „sprawą polską” i badaniami polonistycznymi. Autorka artykułu proponuje rozpatrywanie rosyjskiej polonistyki historycznej jako doświadczenia polsko-rosyjskiego dialogu XX wieku.

This article presents a brief overview of the history of Russian historical Polonistics in the 19th century, which was an integral part of Russian Slavistics, but acted according to other laws which were subject to the dynamics of Russian-Polish relations. Special attention is paid to the peculiarities of the formation and development of Russian historical Polonistics, which made it possible to clarify its previously accepted periodisation. This article notes the interdependence between the Polish question and Polonistic studies, which is characteristic of Russia in the 19th century, but only recently reflected in modern historiography. The author of the article suggests considering Russian historical Polonistics as the experience of Russian-Polish dialogue in the context of the long 19th century.

N. I. Kariejew is a famous Russian liberal historian of the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He is also known as a Polonnik historian. In the article the problems of the Polish question in Russia of the second half of the XIX – the beginning of the XX century in the estimation of N. I. Kariejew are considered. The development of this problem in the work of the historian was his research examining the restoration of independent Poland in the context of territorial changes in Central and Eastern Europe after the First World War. Views of N. I. Kariejew on the Polish question are shown against the background of the common positions of Russian historiography to the history of Poland.

N.I. Karejew jest wiadomym rosyjskim liberalnym historykiem drugiej połowy XIX i początku XX wieku. Jest również znany jako historyk polonista. Artykuł dotyczy problemów polskiej kwestii w Rosji w drugiej połowie XIX oraz na początku XX wieku w ocenie N. I. Karejewa. Rozwinięciem tego problemu w pracach historyka było jego badanie odrodzenia niepodległej Polski w kontekście zmian terytorialnych w Europie Środkowej i Wschodniej po I wojnie światowej. Poglądy N. I. Karejewa w sprawie polskiej ukazano na tle ogólnych stanowisk rosyjskiej historiografii na temat historii Polski.

Н. И. Кареев известный русский либеральный историк второй половины XIX – начала XX века. Он известен так же как историк-полонист. В статье рассмотрена проблематика польского вопроса в России второй половины XIX – начала XX века в оценке Н.И. Кареева. Развитием этой проблематики в творчестве историка стали его исследования рассматривающие восстановление независимой Польши в контексте территориальных изменений в Центрально-Восточной Европе после Первой мировой войны. Взгляды Н.И. Кареева по польскому вопросу показаны на фоне общих позиций российской историографии к истории Польши.
