The author of the article presents the image of death and the process of dying described by a contemporary, outstanding German philosopher Robert Spaemann. First, the author explains the relevance and importance of the philosopher’s analysis. The he moves closer to the outlook onto the death and dying from the biological point of view. Obviously, the essence of the article is to present Spaemann’s philosophical point of view. The philosopher is seen to have shown the death in an original way as the most important act of a human being. Therefore he underlines the meaning of preparation to this act. At the same time he justifies the deep sense of the death, the importance of its dignity and threads to this process in the contemporary civilisation. In the article the author also explains other important issues concerning the described problem, such as euthanasia, freezing people, so called state of artificial life and cremation. The article also consider the time of death and the issue of the final decision.
