Exhibitions dedicated to communist Poland in polish museums in 1989–2017 from a quantitative (statistical) perspective

The objective of the research was a survey identification of the presence of the history of Communist Poland, PRL, in museum narrative in 1989–2017. Importantly, this is a repeated, supplemented, and more thorough research versus the one presented in the paper ‘PRL in Museum Narrative over the Last 25 Years’ published in 2014 in the Światowid. Rocznik Muzeum PRL-u (w organizacji) periodical. The research discussed in the present paper forms part of a doctoral dissertation, constituting the research’s second stage. As a result of the conducted research based on survey answers provided by museums and on individual research a database containing 642 exhibitions was created. When processing the data, quantitative analysis was adopted. After data cleaning the following statistical trends were analysed: exhibition duration over the whole research period, percentage of leading themes, percentage of themes in respective cities. The conducted analysis has permitted to observe trends in museum narrative concerning PRL. Also the most popular exhibition duration over the research period has been identified (up to two years and permanent exhibitions). The most popular categories have been named: art history, political history, history of everyday life. Three groups of urban centres where museum narrative is present to a varied degree have been named. The fourth group contains cities in whose museums the topic of PRL has not been tackled over the last 28 years, or such projects cannot be reliably confirmed.

This article addresses the issue of the use of oral accounts in research on very recent history. In particular, the topic of interest is the question of whether oral history in its current form (i.e., given its theoretical, practical, and institutional settings) has a realistic chance of playing a significant role in the shaping of the practice of historical research in Poland. The starting point for addressing this problem is the increasing rate of debate in the academic community, in particular in the field of historiography and the perspectives for its development as a component of academic reflexion. This text contains an attempt at both the identification of the key factors hindering the use of oral accounts in historical research and the formulation of a proposal to deal with impasses.

W artykule podęty zostaje problem wykorzystania relacji ustnych w badaniach historii najnowszej. W szczególności przedmiotem zainteresowania jest pytanie o to, czy historia mówiona, w swojej obecnej postaci (tzn. biorąc pod uwagę jej teoretyczne, praktyczne oraz instytucjonalne usytuowanie) ma realną szansę na odegranie znaczącej roli w kształtowaniu praktyki badań historycznych w Polsce. Punkt wyjścia do tak postawionego problemu stanowi nabierająca tempa debata usytuowania w ramach akademii, w szczególności w ramach historiografii i perspektyw jej rozwoju jako składnika naukowej refleksji. W tekście podjęta zostaje próba zidentyfikowania kluczowych elementów utrudniających wykorzystanie relacji ustnych w badaniach historycznych, a także sformułowania propozycji wyjścia z patowej sytuacji.

Pedra Arrupe SI w Polskiej Rzeczpospolitej Ludowej w świetle dokumentacji funkcjonariuszy komunistycznego Ministerstwa Spraw Wewnętrznych. Przytacza opinie, jakie były wygłaszane przez duchowieństwo polskie w związku z pobytem o. Pedra Arrupe SI w Polsce oraz odnotowuje informacje przekazywane przez donosicieli oraz funkcjonariuszy MSW. Pobyt generała jezuitów nie spotkał się z dobrym przyjęciem wśród polskiego duchowieństwa rzymskokatolickiego.

The article presents the preparations and the course of the visit of the Jesuit general Father Pedro Arrupe SJ to the Polish People’s Republic in the light of documentation by the officers of the communist Ministry of the Interior. The author quotes the opinions expressed by the Polish clergy regarding the presence of Father Pedro Arrupe SJ in Poland and notes the information provided by informers and officers of the Ministry of the Interior. This visit by a Jesuit general was not well received by the Polish Roman Catholic clergy.

The article presents various operational cases that the security apparatus brought against the Jesuits from particular outposts of the Greater Poland-Masovia Province of the Jesus Society during the People's Poland. Knowledge in this area was obtained on the basis of many years of research and analysis of documents left by the Security Service in the archives of the Institute of National Remembrance. The article lists areas of interest of the security apparatus of the Jesuit order, as well as individual monks. The analysis of the documentation showed that the Ministry of Security wanted to know the whole life of the religious. The majority of the security apparatus was interested in current pastoral work and contacts with various social groups on many levels.

W artykule przedstawiono różnorodne sprawy operacyjne jakie aparat bezpieczeństwa w okresie Polski Ludowej wytoczył przeciwko jezuitom z poszczególnych placówek Prownicji Wielkopolsko-Mazowieckiej Towarzystwa Jezusowego. Wiedzę w tym zakresie uzyskano na podstawie wieloletnich badań i analizy dokumentów pozostawionych przez Służbę Bezpieczeństwa w archiwach Instytutu Pamięci Narodowej. W artykule wymieniono obszary zainteresowania aparatu bezpieczeństwa zakonem jezuitów, jak również poszczególnymi zakonnikami. Z analizy dokumentacji wynikało, że resort bezpieczeństwa chciał poznać całokształt życia zakonnika. W przeważającej aparat bezpieczeństwa mierze interesowała bieżąca praca duszpasterska i kontakty z różnymi grupami społecznymi na wielu płaszczyznach.

Jest to czas: nawiązywania przez jezuitów dialogu z władzą komunistyczną, ujawnienia się konfliktu międzypokoleniowego oraz ostrego sporu z prymasem kardynałem Stefanem Wyszyńskim. W zakonie zostały powołane dwie niejawne grupy, których zadaniem było nawiązanie dialogu z otaczającą rzeczywistością.
