The employment situation for individuals of age fifty and above has deteriorated considerably on a global scale over the past ten years and this has prompted international organisations and national governments to seek solutions in terms of what measures can be taken to return those who are willing to work back into the labour market. This paper focuses on the Małopolskie voivodship in Southern Poland, which is one of a total sixteen that makes up the country’s geographic and economic configuration. Relative to the national level, Małopolskie underperforms in terms of labour productivity, labour utilisation, and average real GDP per capita and therefore represents a policy issue to be addressed. Individuals above the age of fifty in Małopolskie are, as throughout Europe, a central source of the unemployment syndrome. The severity of the problem opens up dialogue as to the potential measures that can be taken in tackling the labour market gap in respect of this particular age group. The aim of this work is therefore to propose an initiative which could possibly deepen the level of public-private sector interaction with a view to improving greater labour market efficiency and improved employment opportunities for the over-fifties. This approach may even represent a model to emulate in tackling youth unemployment.
