Stage costume is an element of a theatrical performance, as well as a specific attribute that can be used by an actor creating a role. It helps or hinders the stage artist in creating the character. Over the centuries and decades, its form and meaning have changed. The aim of this article is to present theatrical costumes designed by Luigi Sapelli, one of the greatest designers of stage costumes from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The description of the costumes is preceded by a sketch, briefly presenting the style of the theater of the Young Poland period and the rules of creating the artistic side of performances applied at that time. The costumes in question are part of the theater collection of the Museum of Krakow.

Kostium – element spektaklu teatralnego, a także swoisty strój – „przedmiot” wyróżniający aktora na scenie. Pomaga lub przeszkadza artyście scenicznemu w tworzeniu postaci. Przez wieki i dekady zmieniały się jego forma oraz znaczenie. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest zaprezentowanie kostiumów teatralnych zaprojektowanych przez Luigiego Sapellego, jednego z największych projektantów strojów scenicznych z przełomu XIX i XX w. Opis kostiumów poprzedzi szkic, skrótowo przybliżający stylistykę teatru okresu Młodej Polski oraz obowiązujące wówczas zasady tworzenia strony plastycznej spektakli. Omawiane kostiumy stanowią część kolekcji teatralnej należącej do Muzeum Krakowa.
