The data on the number of kids and teenagers suffering from mental disorders that re quire professional help are similar in many countries, and they make about 10 percent of the population. In Poland, this percentage stands at nine at least, which means that the psychiatric and psychological treatment system needs to support about 630,000 kids and teenagers below the age of eighteen. The percentage of suicide attempts among teenagers is also very high. Having this in mind, the auditors of the Supreme Audit Office examined whether such persons were provided with access to psychi atric treatment. The audit covered the years 2017–2019.

Liczba dzieci i młodzieży poniżej 18. roku życia wykazującej zaburzenia psychiczne, które wymagają profesjonalnej pomocy, wynosi w Polsce około 630 tys. (9%). Bardzo wysoki jest też odsetek prób samobójczych nastolatków; stanowią one drugą przyczynę zgonów w tej grupie wiekowej. Mimo skali problemu i doniesień medialnych na temat nieprawidłowości w funkcjonowaniu psychiatrycznej opieki zdrowotnej małoletnich, te sprawy nie były przedmiotem wystarczającego zainteresowania konsultantów w dziedzinie psychiatrii dzieci i młodzieży (krajowego i wojewódzkich). Najwyższa Izba Kontroli podjęła więc kontrolę mającą na celu ocenę dostępności lecznictwa psychiatrycznego dla tej grupy pacjentów.
