Autor dokonuje rekonstrukcji wybranych relacji między piłką nożną a tożsamością narodową w Argentynie. W związku z tym podjęto analizę następujących problemów szczegółowych: meaning piłki nożnej w definiowaniu roli Argentyny w globalnym świecie; piłka nożna i społeczne konstrukcje argentyńskiej męskości; argentyńska i brytyjska piłka nożna jako kontrastowe style gry (w kontekście cech lokalnej kultury argentyńskiej); postać Diego Maradony jako egzemplifikacji „idealnej” tożsamości piłkarskiej. Problemy te są podejmowane w różnorodnych, typowych dla Argentyny, kontekstach społeczno-kulturowych.

The paper is aimed at reconstructing selected relations between football and national identity in Argentina. Hence, the following specific problems are analyzed: the significance of football in defining the role of Argentina in global world football and social construction of Argentine masculinity; contrasting Argentine and British styles of play (in the context of local Argentine culture); the figure of Diego Maradona as an exemplification of „ideal” football identity. These problems are analyzed in various, typical for Argentina, social and cultural contexts.
