Tekst stanowi podsumowanie seminarium naukowego poświęconego problemowi pol-skiego dorobku dotyczącego koncepcji państwa prawnego oraz wstęp do pogłębionych badań na ten temat. Wstępna odpowiedź na pytanie badawcze czy istnieje polski dorobek w opisanej dziedzinie jest pozytywna. Jest to dorobek wielowiekowy i stosunkowo bo-gaty. Odpowiedź na pytanie o istnienie polskiej tradycji państwa prawnego, rozumianej jako ciągłość – jest negatywna. Pomimo podejmowania coraz liczniejszych (i do pewne-go stopnia zrozumiałych) prób dowodzenia tej ciągłości i istnienia przynajmniej częścio-wej kontynuacji ustrojowej pomiędzy I, II i III Rzecząpospolitą, ciągłość ta jest jedynie iluzoryczna i w rzeczywistości została kilkukrotnie zerwana. O krótkotrwałej ciągłości można mówić jedynie w ramach kolejnych epok w historii Polski.

The paper is a summary of a scientific seminar devoted to the problem of the Polish acquis concerning the concept of the Rule of Law and an introduction to in-depth re-search on this subject. The initial answer to the research question whether there is Pol-ish achievements in the described field is positive. It is a centuries-old and relatively rich achievement. The answer to the question about the existence of the Polish tradi-tion of the Rule of law, understood as continuity, is negative. Despite making more and more (partially understandable) attempts to prove this continuity and the existence of at least a partial continuation of the political system between the so called First, Sec-ond and Third Polish Republics, this continuity is only illusory and in fact has been broken several times. One can speak of a short-term continuity only within successive epochs in Polish history.
