Current studies show that young people are more and more socially unadjusted due to personality and environmental factors. Truancy is also included in the concept of social pathology. A family court may decide to establish a probationary supervision over a juvenile delinquent. Probation officer plays the role of a coordinator of services working for a minor. This article is a theoretical and empirical. Its purpose is to determine the role of a probation officer for a truancy student. It outlines the problems of truancy, their definitions, causes, types and effects and the methods and techniques of probation, reports linking him with a ward and its environment, as well as the successes and failures resulting from the cooperation. It also describes the results of empirical research conducted among probation officers.

Współczesne badania ukazują, że wśród młodzieży spotyka się coraz częściej występujące niedostosowanie społeczne wynikające z czynników osobowościowych i środowiskowych. Do patologii społecznych zaliczane są także wagary. Sąd rodzinny może orzec ustanowienie nadzoru kuratorskiego nad nieletnim wagarującym ustawicznie. Kurator wciela się wtedy w rolę swoistego koordynatora służb pracujących na rzecz małoletniego. Niniejszy artykuł ma charakter teoretyczno-empiryczny. Jego celem jest określenie roli kuratora sądowego wobec ucznia wagarującego. Przedstawia zarys problematyki wagarów, ich definicji, przyczyn, rodzajów i skutków oraz metody i techniki pracy kuratora sądowego, relacje łączące go z podopiecznym i jego środowiskiem, a także sukcesy i porażki wynikające z ich współpracy. Opisuje również wyniki badań empirycznych przeprowadzonych wśród kuratorów sądowych.
