EN
The authors present the HighScope Educational Research Foundation’s model of early childhood education developed in the 1960s for use in the well-known Perry preschool program by D. P. Weikart and his colleagues. They begin with a brief historical account of the development of the model followed by a detailed description of its philosophy and daily teaching practice. In the ubsequent parts of the paper, the authors discuss a set of research studies establishing the value of the HighScope model. Research shows that the model has extraordinary long-term benefits hen provided to young children living in poverty; it also stands out from teacher-directed institution in its contribution to young children’s social development. In their concluding remarks, the authors claim that the HighScope model of early childhood education works to significantly improve the life chances of participating children.
