Nowadays one can observe a gradual blurring of the earlier hardly disernible boundary between text and image. Apart from the apparent phenomenon of adopting the text function by the image, there is also the phenomenon of adopting the image function (i. e. the visual function) by the text. Thanks to the development of the media, texts have acquired some features that used to be reserved only for images. It is justified to state that sometimes a given text loses its distinctiveness among other graphical elements to such an extent that it turns into one of them, having a different form (as it consists of the signs of the language system) but a similar function. The subject of this article is the visual function of text. It has been characterized on the basis of the of selected text units in the media.
