The economic importance of voluntary work has been exceedingly appreciated in the last few decades. This is not surprising at all, because it is highly profitable according to the related estimated data. There are 115,9 million people doing voluntary work only in Europe, which means that they would create the world's 7th biggest economy with EUR 282 billion value creation if they formed an individual state. The organizations know that voluntary work has several advantages apart from the economic benefits. It is profitable both for the society and for the individuals as well. Several researches have proven that voluntary work positively influences the development of the personality, because the key-competencies - such as: co-operation, empathy, solidarity, conflict handling, problem solving, etc. - expected in the labor market can be improved.

The objective of this article is to show the characteristics of volunteering in Ukraine after the Euromaidan. The article presents its specifics and the socio-political conditions which allowed to define voluntary work in Ukrainian legislature. It also discusses the main forms of social engagement in volunteering, inaugurated at the onset of the anti-terrorist operation in the eastern part of the country. The level of public trust towards voluntary organisations has also been examined in the article. Voluntary work has also been analysed from the perspective of social research conducted in Ukraine since 2014. In the conclusions of this text it is claimed that development of social self-organisation is one of the results of Euromaidan. Voluntary work after Euromaidan has become a form of self-organisation and self-mobilisation of the society, preventing a collapse of the Ukrainian state as a result of the political crisis and armed conflict in Donbass.

This paper deals with volunteering and volunteers. The aim of this paper is to verify selected personality and social characteristics of volunteers on our specific sample. The study sample is formed by the participants of ELSPAC (European Longitudinal Study of Parenthood and Childhood) and the data used is from the eleven-year-old age (of the children from the project) period. The parents from this project were divided by sex and then into three groups. There are: 1. group of people who are actually volunteers, 2. group of people who were volunteers sometime in past, and 3. group of people who had never been volunteers. The determinants (which we defined as relevant for the assessment of characteristics) are: education, paid employment vs. unemployment, satisfaction in work, number of friends, religion, psychogenic difficulties (anxiety, depression, alcohol use, smoking), self-esteem, divorce, existence of mate. With the exception of variable "education", in which we univocally confirmed the link with voluntary work described in the majority of papers, our sample showed rather atypical outcomes. Our hypotheses about influence of religion or sex are not confirmed. Similarly there is no evidence for our hypothesis about possible compensation of some subjective frustrations through voluntary work.

Engagement and volunteerism are important issues in the area of Human Resource Management. Organized in Krakow in 2016, World Youth Days (WYD) exposed many phenomena related to these areas, creating an interesting research fi eld. This paper identifi es and explains the terminology and concepts existing in the literature that concern engagement and characterizes the volunteering issue in the context of Polish social reality. The article also contains selected fi ndings of a survey conducted among World Youth Days volunteers. Based on it, this paper shows the characteristics of selected relationships and the social and demographic conditions of volunteerism in that specifi c research perspective. Research has shown that, within the volunteers’ groups, it is possible to use professional and modern management methods. Our fi ndings lead to a set of suggestions for team leaders that have the potential of creating a higher level of engagement among participants and may enable better organizational management.

Sorrow, pain and sickness are occurrences experienced by every person. In such situations man very often feels hopeless, especially when he is abandoned by others. For this reason the interpersonal care and support for the sick person is needed. In our times this responsibility lies not only with the health care workers but also with the relatives and acquaintances of the sick. In the case of the people who have faith and who belong to a specific parish com- munity, this care concerns also their co-believers with the priest at the centre. This study is an attempt and offers encouragement to the new approach on everything that Catholic priests have to bring support and reassurance to the sick person. It seems that not everyone approaches to the Sacrament of the Sick correctly in our times.

Hospice-palliative care is related to the last stage of human life and is sometimes proposed as a home or stationary care when patient is suffering from advanced, incurable chronic disease, especially cancer. Serious illness, dying, and death as well as experience of loss and bereavement are described in the mission of end-of-life care which is related in Poland with volunteering. Volunteer involvement is associated mainly with the help of people with good moral attitudes, including young people from “good schools” or environments with shaped spirituality and good practices of family and social life. Is it possible that this type of boundary situations with high emotional charge can be positive and developmental experiences for psychophysical structure emerging young person at risk of exclusion? Is it possible to prepare teachers and educators, which through the topics related to the end of life care could affect the emotional development of students, especially in crisis situations? Presenting basic information about hospice care in Poland and hospice volunteering examples of successful cooperation between hospice and school has been shown, especially its impact on young people at risk of exclusion from a group. References to publishing proposals from Hospice Foundation Library, which were prepared as help to educators, catechists and others working with so-called difficult youth ends this article based on practical action and social education about the end of life and volunteering.

Przeprowadzono analizę porównawczą podstawowych podejść do kształtowania etycznych cech pracowników w warunkach szkolenia personelu w Japonii i Korei Południowej. Tekst odzwierciedla niektóre aspekty wolontariatu i nauki etyki w szkołach Ukrainy.

The work quantifies the value of volunteer work that was done during the organization of the Olympic Festival (OF) in Brno in February 2018 based on the specification of individual volunteer positions according to the ISCO classification and the median average wage for each level for the South Moravian Region in February 2018. The vast majority of sporting events cannot really do without the active involvement of volunteers. Mega sports events need to fill dozens of positions with staff for which they usually do not have the necessary budget and therefore supplement their organi-zational team with volunteers, hoping for a sufficient number of volunteers (i.e. quantity) but also for their competence (i.e. qua-lity). The task of volunteers is usually to provide those services that are in direct contact with spectators and active participants, especially in the case of mass sporting events. These activities are often a combination of "responsible/monotonous/stressful". This paper compares the planned numbers of volunteers to deliver a 17 day long sporting event carrying a national impact with the actual numbers generated by accurate records throughout the project, and struggles to provide best possible answers to the question of what the additional cost to the organizer would have been if volunteers had not been part of the organizing team.
