In contemporary states there appear more and more opinions on crisis of democracy and lowering of turnout in general elections. So, many experts state that in times of dynamic development of ICT tools traditional ways of voting should be supplemented by alternative methods of voting, including electronic voting. The aim of this article is to analyze experiences related to the implementation and use of internet voting (as a form of electronic voting) in selected countries. The considerations in this text will lead to answer the following research questions: which countries have implemented internet voting and if / how this form of voting affects voter turnout? In which countries (and why) the endeavors on the introduction of i-voting were suspended? What are the i-voting procedures in individual countries? What are the most important risks (threats) and benefits of voting over the Internet? What are the costs of the implementation of internet voting in certain countries?
