This article presents the translation of the treatise De verbo Dei, one of the several minor works of Hugh of Saint Victor (c. 1096–1141), which are known under the joint title Sex opuscula spiritualia. Hugh was a philosopher, a theologian, and a mystic, one of the main representatives of the Parisian Victorine School, an author increasingly present in Polish specialist literature. Hugh’s opuscle is an excellent exemplum of the twelfth-century monastic method of Scriptural interpretation. It is an exegesis of a short New Testament fragment, just a few verses of the Letter to the Hebrews (4:12–5:2).

W niniejszym artykule przedkłada się tłumaczenie jednego spośród kilku pomniejszych, znanych pod wspólnym tytułem Sex opuscula spiritualia, dziełek Hugona ze Świętego Wiktora (ok. 1096–1141) – filozofa i teologa oraz mistyka, jednego z głównych przedstawicieli paryskiej szkoły wiktoryńskiej, autora coraz bardziej w polskim piśmiennictwie specjalistycznym obecnego – tłumaczenie mianowicie traktatu De verbo Dei. Utwór ten jest znakomitym exemplum dwunastowiecznej, monastycznej metody interpretacji Biblii. Stanowi go egzegeza króciutkiego fragmentu nowotestamentalnego, kilku zaledwie wersetów Listu do Hebrajczyków (4,12–5,2).

This article presents the reader with the first Polish translation of the sixth book from the first part of Liber exceptionum by Richard of Saint Victor, one of the main representatives of the Victorine school operating in the 12th century in Saint Victor’s Abbey in Paris, which deals with successive Roman emperors from Octavian to Trajan. The text is undoubtedly an example of medieval Christian historiography. It is preceded by a preface, in which Richard is briefly introduced and in which the Liber exceptionum is generally characterized as well as the corresponding sixth book itself. Translation has been provided with notes for more efficient reading.

This article presents the reader with the first Polish translation of the three sermons (Sermon VI–VIII) from the first part of Liber exceptionum by Richard of Saint Victor, one of the main representatives of the Victorine school operating in the 12th century in Saint Victor’s Abbey in Paris, which deals with presentation saint, and especially Apostols. The text is undoubtedly an example of medieval Christian hagiography. It is preceded by a preface, in which Richard is briefly introduced and in which the sermons are generally characterized as well as the corresponding imagine of saint itself. Translation has been provided with notes for more efficient reading.

This article presents the first Polish translation of the eighth book about successive Roman emperors from Constantine the Great to Zeno from the first part of Liber exceptionum by Richard of Saint Victor, one of the main representatives of the Victorine school operating in the 12th century in Saint Victor’s Abbey in Paris. The text of the translation is a continuation of Richard’s The set of Roman emperors from Octavian to Trajan (Richard of Saint Victor’s „The set of Roman emperors from Octavian to Trajan”, i.e. the polish translation of the sixth book from the first part of his „Liber exceptionum”, „Łódzkie Studia Teologiczne” 30 [2021] 1, 63–83) and The set of Roman emperors from Trajan to Constantine the Great (Richard of Saint Victor’s „The set of Roman emperors from Trajan to Constantine the Great”, i.e. the polish translation of the seventh book from the first part of his „Liber exceptionum”, „Łódzkie Studia Teologiczne” 30 [2021] 3, 113–134), already available in Polish.

The article contains the first translation into Polish of Absalon’s of Sprinckirsbach Sermon XXXIX. The theme of the sermon is the dedication of the church. The translation is preceded by a short introduction about the author and his work. There is also a summary of the sermon in the introduction. The translation is accompanied by explanatory comments and localizations of biblical passages.

This article presents the translation of part ten of the second book of Hugh of St Victor’s (b. c. 1096, d. 1141) treatise De sacramentis christianae fidei, which deals with simony (De simonia). To make it easier for the reader to compare the original with the translation, a selected fragment from De sacramentis... has been reprinted as published by Jacques-Paul Migne in the 176th volume of his perennial collection Patrologia Latina. The Polish translation is preceded by a brief introductory word and provided with footnotes that give information about the dating, the basic idea and the structure of the text as well as summarise and to some extent discuss the contents of part ten of the second book of this theological summa.

Artykuł prezentuje tłumaczenie części dziesiątej drugiej księgi traktatu De sacramentis christianae fidei Hugona ze Świętego Wiktora (ur. ok. 1096, zm. 1141), poświęconej zagadnieniu symonii (De simonia). Aby ułatwić czytelnikowi porównanie oryginału z tłumaczeniem, przedrukowano wybrany fragment z De sacramentis christianae fidei w wersji tekstualnej dzieła podawanej przez Jacquesa-Paula Migne’a w 176. tomie jego wiekopomnego zbioru Patrologia Latina. Przekład polski poprzedzono krótkim słowem wprowadzającym i opatrzono kilkudziesięcioma przypisami, w których pomieszczono podstawowe informacje o datacji i zasadniczej idei dzieła, a także streszczono zawartość części dziesiątej drugiej księgi tej teologicznej sumy.

This article is devoted to one of the sermons by the great and illustrious Victorine preacher, Absalon of Sprinckirsbach (died 1205), author of the extensive collection Sermones festivales, which was first published in 1534 in Cologne, and was later reprinted in 1605 in Milan and in J.-P. Migne’s perennial Latin patrology. The sermon in question is the sermon XLI, one of four sermons by Absalon intended to be read or preached on the occasion of a church dedication ceremony – three of these occasional sermons are already available in Polish translation. A translation of the indicated work is offered here with brief commentaries in the form of footnotes to selected parts of it. The Latin text of the sermon is also included below, so that the two language versions, Latin and Polish, can be easily compared by the reader. The present work, which enriches the collection of those Victorine texts in which the allegorical meaning of the Christian temple is expounded and which are available in Polish, is an element of a broader research project, which will culminate in a study referring to Absalon’s theology of the house of God. This study will complement the article “Multa in his omnibus latent profunda mysteria.” Hugh, Richard and Adam of St Victor’s understanding of the church building.

The Polish reader is hereby presented with a translation of the third of four sermons by Absalon of Sprinckirsbach (died 1205), an author belonging to the Victorine circle, on the consecration of the church. The translation is accompanied by several commentaries in the form of footnotes. The Latin text of the work, which is currently only available in a non-critical version in the Latin patrology, has also been added so that the proposed translation can be easily compared with the original. The submitted publication is part of a wider project. As part of this project, two texts have so far been submitted for publication, namely translations of Absalon’s sermons XXXVIII and XXXIX intended for the day of the dedication of the temple.

The translation with annotations was preceded by an introduction in which Richard’s dependence on Hugh of Fleury and his Historia ecclesiastica was briefly discussed.
