Czas w różnych swych dziedzinach i wymiarach odgrywał dużą rolę w systemach wytwórczych organizacji, a w tym zwłaszcza w podmiotach gospodarczych działających na rynku. Należycie skonstruowane i właściwie dobrane systemy czasu pracy, systemy produkcji, a nawet metody organizacji czasu pracy własnej menedżera, czy pracownika przyczyniają się do wzrostu efektywności czynników wytwórczych, zwłaszcza do wzrostu wydajności pracy, wykorzystania urządzeń czy też zmniejszania zapasów.
