The article discusses the history of a representative missionary investment in Tarnow - the House for the Poor “on the Huta”, established in the 1930s in the context of contemporary economic, social and political conditions. The construction of this facility was of active interest to well-known politicians - Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski and former Prime Minister Ignacy Jan Paderewski. The originator of the House of the Poor was the then pastor of the missionary parish in Tarnow, Fr. Bronisław Szymański CM, and the designer was engineer Tadeusz Stapf. The house has undergone many organizational, naming and architectural transformations since its inception in 1934 to the present day. However, the functions and ethos of its activities have remained unchanged, in keeping with the Vincentian spirit pursued by the missionaries and Sisters of Mercy, which includes providing works of mercy to the poor, the sick, the lonely, orphans and the disabled.

Artykuł omawia historię reprezentatywnej inwestycji misjonarskiej w Tarnowie - Domu Ubogich „na Hucie”, powstałego w latach 30. XX wieku w kontekście współczesnych uwarunkowań gospodarczych, społecznych i politycznych. Budową tego obiektu aktywnie interesowali się znani politycy - wicepremier Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski i były premier Ignacy Jan Paderewski. Pomysłodawcą Domu Ubogich był ówczesny proboszcz parafii misjonarskiej w Tarnowie ks. Bronisław Szymański CM, a projektantem inż. Tadeusz Stapf.

The teachings of Pope Francis described demonstrate how important it is to him to accustom Christians to a merciful lifestyle and to revive the mercy culture. If the way of the Church – as St. John Paul II taught in accordance with the Second Vatican Council – is man, then for Pope Francis, the way of the Church is a man who needs God's mercy in the form of being preached the word of God, repentance, and absolution of sins to, in other words – a sinful and repentant man; and then a man who is poor – who needs material support, restoration of justice and dignity of God's image, spiritual consolation, acceptance, affection and compassion. Christians are obliged to share the mercy granted by God and people with others. They are to imitate merciful Jesus, see Him in the poor and suffering, be the outstretched hands of Christ and of His merciful Mother. The Pope wishes mercy not to be merely talked about, but also to be lived by.
