Treścią opracowania jest identyfikacja, systematyka i charakterystyka podstawowych źródeł niskich wynagrodzeń pracowników w Polsce, jako kraju Unii Europejskiej, oraz społeczno-ekonomiczne tego skutki. Podstawę teoretyczną prowadzonych badań stanowi następujące założenie: w badaniach należy traktować gospodarkę kraju jako system złożony z odpowiednich elementów oraz kierować się ciągłością procesów gospodarowania. Przyjęcie tego założenia oznacza kompleksowe, a nie wyłącznie mikroekonomiczne, analizowanie problemów wchodzących w zakres prowadzonych badań. W opracowaniu wyniki badań dotyczące źródeł i społeczno- ekonomicznych skutków niskich płac w Polsce, jako kraju UE, przedstawiono w następującym ujęciu: źródła i społeczno-ekonomiczne skutki niskich wynagrodzeń w Polsce wynikające z kardynalnych błędów pro rynkowej transformacji polskiej gospodarki oraz źródła i społeczno- ekonomiczne skutki niskich wynagrodzeń wynikające ze zignorowania podstawowych zasad ekonomii i oparcia polityki gospodarczej kraju na doktrynie neoliberalizmu.

The paper deals with the identification, systematics and characteristics of the fundamental sources of low employee wages in Poland as a EU member-state and their economic and social effects. The following assumption constitutes the theoretical basis for the research: in the course of the investigations the country’s economic system should be treated as a system made of adequate elements and the researchers should consider the continuity of economic processes. The acceptance of that assumption indicates a complex – and not just a micro-economical – analysis of issues regarding the research in question. The results of the research as regards the sources and social and economic effects of low wages of Poland as an EU member-state are presented in the following two approaches: (1) the sources and social and economic effects of low wages in Poland that result from cardinal mistakes of the market-oriented transformation of Polish economy and (2) the sources and social and economic effects of low wages that result from neglecting the basic principles of economy and following the neo-liberal doctrine in the country’s economic policy.
