Niniejszy artykuł wpisuje się w nurt zagadnień określanych mianem życia gatunków. Celem było pokazanie zaczątków współcześnie wyróżnianych gatunków (głównie informacyjnych) w dawnej prasie. Tak postawiony problem badawczy wymagał włączenia perspektywy współczesnej do oglądu materiału historycznego. W artykule zwrócono uwagę na problemy wynikające z wyodrębniania dawnych form/gatunków wypowiedzi oraz z ich nazywania. Wnioski i postulaty badawcze przedstawione w opracowaniu zostały poparte analizami wypowiedzi prasowych pochodzących z XVIII i XIX wieku.

This paper deals with issues described as the life of genres. The aim was to present the early beginnings of modern genres, mainly informative ones, in the old press. Therefore it was essential to include modern perspective in the research of historical material. The problems with isolating old forms/genres of the statements and naming them was emphasized in the paper. Research postulates and conclusions were presented and supported by the analyses of the press statements of the 18th and 19th centuries.

Przedmiotem analiz są teksty, których główna intencja to powiadomienie o śmierci, a w których zespół illokucji uzupełniających tworzą: przedstawienie osoby zmarłej, uwypuklenie jej zasług, oddanie jej szacunku. Podstawę materiałową stanowią teksty pochodzące z czterech najstarszych warszawskich gazet: „Merkuriusza Polskiego” (XVII w.), „Kuriera Polskiego” i „Gazety Warszawskiej” (XVIII w.) oraz „Kuriera Warszawskiego” (pocz. XIX w.). Ogląd materiału prasowego, a także przeprowadzane z wykorzystaniem instrumentarium genologicznego analizy dały podstawę do sformułowania hipotezy, że gatunki prasowe takie jak: nekrolog, wspomnienie pośmiertne, sylwetka (z jej odmianami) miały początek w XVII-wiecznej wzmiance prasowej powiadamiającej o śmierci osoby. Prymarny cel, jakim było poinformowania o zgonie, był – w zależności od epoki, potrzeb komunikacyjnych wspólnoty, innych uwarunkowań kontekstualnych (np. możliwości technicznych prasy) – uzupełniany kolejnymi celami, co w perspektywie czasowej rodziło nowe warianty (odmiany) gatunków, a z czasem – odrębne gatunkowo formy.

The subject of the analysis are texts of which main intention was to notify of the death of a person. These notifications were accompanied by a set of complementary illocutions such as: presenting the deceased person, highlighting his or her merits and showing respect for them. The material basis of the analysis consisted of texts from the four oldest Warsaw newspapers: „Merkuriusz Polski” (the beginning of 17th century), „Kurier Polski” and „Gazeta Warszawska” (18th century) and „Kurier Warszawski” (the beginning of 19th century). This genre analysis led to the formulation of a hypothesis that the press genres such as obituary, memorial note, and profile (with its variants) originated in the 17th-century press texts announcing the death of a person. The primary aim, which was to inform about the death, was complemented by other goals, depending on the epoch, the communication needs of the community and other contextual conditions (e.g. the technical abilities of the press), which in time gave rise to new variants/variations of genres, and over time, to separate genre forms.

The author presents how the rule of genealogical reductionism is reflected in the motor press pertaining to the choice of genre of written pieces. The analysis shows that the motor press omits certain genres of written forms. Some are lacking in all the magazines, some are forced out from certain journals. Some genres, which are chiefly commentarial appear rarely or sporadically. This also relates to an outline, a report, an interview and some variations of commentaries. Another example of the functioning of the rule of genealogical reductionism is the domination of some peculiar forms of transmission, mainly such forms (and their variations) as autonomous announcement under the form of a collection, specific editorial commentary, special realization of the convention of mentioning as series, advisory commentary as a news piece creating an ensemble of genres with certain types of judgmental commentaries. The motor press shows, how such forms may be characterized by genre transgression.
