For my research I collected the materials from libimseti.cz website which is the most popular chat portal in the Czech Republic. I examined 8000 users’ nicknames between the age of 15 and 19. Based on the profound research we can state that most of the Czech youngsters use Czech or English hypocorism as their nicknames coming from their own first name and they apply some punctuation marks or numbers that can refer to the users’ age but mainly these are to differentiate the identical nicknames only. The teens quite often adjust positive or negative prefixes to their nicknames. Often celebrities’ names – mainly well-known singers’ or top football players’ names – are used as nicknames.
