The article presents the project „Inventory of «Kultura» Literary Institute Archives” as a base for methodological discussion on processing of the collection of manuscripts and mixed archives. There assumptions is proposed that of the complex catalogue of IKL combined with a plan for public presentation in one database in a unified description form and the „Inventory” itself should be a starting point for methodological dispute on several topics like the basis of a description, collection and unit frames, the idea of an unit, depth of description, catalogers’ freedom of decision, authority headings, but also on the information strategy of the institution’s collection management The article presents experiences of the mixed team of librarians and archivists as an assumption to proposal of extending the education of both professions with the flexibility to combine the librarian and archivist methodology in processing mixed archives. The Author also pointed out the perspective of including methodological experience of museum collections’ into discussed issues.

Realizacja projektu „Inwentarz Archiwum Instytutu Literackiego Kultura” została przedstawiona jako podstawa do rozważań metodycznych w zakresie opracowywania zbioru rękopisów i zbiorów mieszanych. Założenia kompleksowego katalogu zbiorów ILK wraz z planem udostępniania w jednej bazie danych w ujednoliconej formule opisu oraz uzyskany w ten sposób „Inwentarz”, powinny stać się punktem wyjścia do rozważań nad podstawą opisu, granicami zbioru i jednostki, pojęciem jednostki, głębokością opisu, swobodą decyzji katalogującego, kartotekami wzorcowymi, a także strategią informacyjną instytucji zarządzającej zbiorem. Doświadczenia z pracy mieszanego zespołu bibliotekarzy i archiwistów przedstawione zostały jako przyczynek do rozbudowania kształcenia obu specjalności o otwartość na łączenie metod opracowania bibliotecznego i archiwalnego w stosunku do zbiorów mieszanych. Wskazano także perspektywę dołączenia do tych rozważań doświadczeń metodycznych z zakresu opracowania zbiorów muzealnych.

The article aims at the presentation of the collection of manuscripts, a hardly known collection of historical sources concerning different periods of the history of Poland. It describes in detail individual sets of manuscripts, a kind of guide concerning the inventory of the whole collection available in the Museum (a copy in the National Library of Poland). The most valua¬ble, most comprehensive and – in this context – unobvious part of the collection, consisting of the sources for the history of the January Uprising, as well as the collection of literary autographs and royal documents. The objects which are closely related to the history of the Museum are the leg¬acy of Father Józef Jarzębowski and manuscripts concerning the history of the Roman-Catholic church, documentation of the Poles’ activities during World War II, minor materials concerning the history of the Polish diaspora. It is only by recognizing the history and context of how the collection had been developed that it can be properly interpreted, individual objects included.

Partnership models - an attempt at assessing the scale of the issue, determining the number of private and public institutions collecting archival, library and museum materials. Collecting various types of materials in one place and the resulting necessity to account for this diversity in fonds descriptions. Every partnership agreement should be based on a comprehensive expert assessment and should include appropriate legal conditions. Such agreements should include the obligation to handle collections with proper care, as well as grant help providers the right (and oblige them) to control the use of their help after a specified period as justification for reasonable use of public funds. Analytical methodology - respecting the existing methods of material organisation when categorising collections; developing a coherent information and description system for the entire archival, library and museum fonds. Application of international standards of description and linking descriptions with authority files.

History of the Museum of Marian Fathers, founded at the college for boys in Bielany, the district of Warsaw, reconstituted in the Fawley Court at Henley-on-Thames, Great Britain, and finally moved to the Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows in Licheń Stary, is the key to understanding the content and organization of this collection. Patriotic, religious and educational aspects of the museums, its role for the Polish diaspora in Great Britain, and its depletion in the results of historical changes. Presentation of the collection content” museum objects – sidearm, sculptures, artistic fabrics, drawings and watercolors, paintings, graphics, commemorative items; book collection – books from the 19th and 20th centuries, journals, music prints, maps, and cityscapes. A more detailed presentation of the collection of early printed books, ephemera, and journals from the 19th century.
