Artykuł porusza kwestię stosunków gospodarczych Chiny–Ameryka Łacińska w tym stuleciu. W ciągu pierwszych dwóch dekad XXI wieku nastąpił znaczny wzrost handlu między Chinami i Ameryką Łacińską, a inwestycje Chin w Ameryce Łacińskiej wzrosły. Chociaż prezentowany tekst omawia kwestie współpracy gospodarczej, jego głównym celem nie jest jednak prezentacja dynamiki tych stosunków, ale refleksja nad szansami i zagrożeniami dla Ameryki Łacińskiej wynikającymi ze współpracy gospodarczej między Chinami i Ameryką Łacińską. Artykuł omawia zatem możliwości i zagrożenia w wielu aspektach, podając różne argumenty i liczne przykłady. Wnioski z tego artykułu dotyczą zarówno pojawiających się wyzwań, jak i perspektyw współpracy.

This article raises the issue of China–Latin America economic relations in this century. During the first two decades of the 21st century, there has been a significant increase in trade between China and Latin America, and China’s investments in Latin America have increased. Although the presented text discusses the issues of economic cooperation, its primary objective, however, is not to present the dynamics of these relations, but to reflect on the chances and risks for Latin America resulting from economic cooperation between China and Latin America. The article thus discusses the area of opportunities and threats in numerous aspects, giving various arguments and numerous examples. The conclusions of the article refer both to emerging challenges and the prospects for cooperation.

In this article was made an attempt to create a Latin American political leadership model based on cultural determinants. Defining the specificity of leadership helped, in turn, to analyze actions and decisions of one of the leaders of the region – Hugo Chávez – by taking the Latin American model into account. Focusing on the individual case made it possible to verify how political culture and tradition can affect the shape and style of leadership in the contemporary democratic state of Latin America.

The purpose of this article was to show how Polish diplomacy after World War II fulfilled the task of searching for war criminals and collaborators in Latin America. The text presents the main directions of activity, shown in the context of descriptions of actions undertaken by foreign services in the years 1945-1950. In order to discuss the topic, documents of the Latin America Section of Department III of the MFA, deposited in the Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Warsaw, were analyzed.

Cel artykułu stanowiło ukazanie, w jaki sposób polska dyplomacja po II wojnie światowej wypełniała zadanie poszukiwania zbrodniarzy wojennych i kolaborantów w Ameryce Łacińskiej. W tekście przedstawione zostały główne kierunki aktywności, prezentowane w kon-tekście opisów działań podejmowanych przez służby zagraniczne w latach 1945-1950. W celu omówienia tematu przeanalizowano dokumenty Wydziału Ameryki Łacińskiej Departamentu III MSZ, zdeponowane w Archiwum Ministerstwa Spraw Zagranicznych w Warszawie.

The primary purpose of this article was to initiate an analysis of the founding myths of the Polish state – their existence and reproduction in the community – in the context of both memetics theory and virtual sites of memory. The research field, broadly outlined by theoretical considerations, was significantly limited in the presented text. Thus, only selected accounts on the Facebook social network were analyzed (within the specified time range) – on the one hand, those representing public institutions dealing with commemoration, and on the other, those private ones, for which one of the purposes is to conduct narratives of memory.

Podstawowe założenie niniejszego artykułu stanowiło zainicjowanie analizy mitów założycielskich państwa polskiego – ich istnienia i powielania we wspólnocie – w kontekście zarówno teorii memetyki, jak i wirtualnych miejsc pamięci. Pole badawcze, szeroko zarysowane rozważaniami teoretycznymi, zostało w prezentowanym tekście znacząco ograniczone. W ten sposób przeanalizowano (w wyznaczonym zakresie czasowym) jedynie wybrane konta na portalu społecznościowym Facebook – z jednej strony te reprezentujące instytucje publiczne zajmujące się upamiętnianiem, z drugiej – te prywatne, których jednym z celów jest prowadzenie narracji pamięci.

The main aim of this article is to answer the question of how populist governments of Hugo Chávez in Venezuela and Evo Morales in Bolivia affected the freedom of the media in countries governed by them. The text discusses actions made by the leaders who wanted to secure their unrestricted access to the mass media, stifle independent media and make them obedient to the government in order to build a positive image of the authorities. This article also made an attempt to perceive an analogy between Chávez’s and Morales’ decisions and to make a comprehensive assessment of the effects of these interventions.

Podstawowym zamierzeniem niniejszego artykułu jest odpowiedź na pytanie, w jaki sposób populistyczne rządy Hugo Cháveza w Wenezueli i Evo Moralesa w Boliwii wpłynęły na wolność mediów we władanych przez nich państwach. W tekście omówiono działania obu przywódców, zmierzających do zapewnienia sobie nieograniczonego dostępu do środków masowego przekazu, stłamszenia ich niezależności oraz podporządkowania władzy w celu budowania jej pozytywnego wizerunku. Podjęta została także próba dostrzeżenia analogii pomiędzy decyzjami Cháveza i Moralesa oraz dokonania wnikliwej oceny skutków tych ingerencji.

The issues important for the EU are reflected in the political, economic, and social decisions made by Poland on the international arena, and influence the character and level of bilateral relations between Poland and particular Latin American countries. This article presents the political aspect of the relations between Poland and Latin American states after the Polish accession to the EU in 2004. Memory and Politics of Memory in Terms of the Memes Theory. With Reference to an Example of the Idea of Polish Heroism

The purpose of the article is to verify the hypothesis that the idea of Polish heroism constitutes an effectively duplicating and spreading meme, and stories of the past constructed in the framework of Polish politics of memory will be effective precisely when they refer to memes duplicated most often in the community. The article proves therefore that the Polish state politics of memory should be shaped on the basis of memes that replicate the most in Polish society, because only then does it have a chance to achieve its goals. What is more, this principle can also be applied to other countries that pursue a politics of memory. It was possible to obtain answers to the research questions raised in the text (in order to verify the hypotheses) due to the use of mutually complementary research methods: analysis of narrative structures and content analysis. The article presents the results of the author’s own research with comments and conclusions.

This text looks at memory narratives about heroes shaped in Poland through official channels and presented by the authorities after 1989. Analysis of who and how they appeared within heroic memory narratives confirms whether affirmative memory narratives prevailed within the Polish post-transitional politics of memory. It also considers the functionality of hero narratives in Poland's public space, reflecting on their causes and consequences.

Niniejszy tekst ma za zadanie odpowiedzieć na pytanie, w jaki sposób narracje pamięci o bohaterach kształtowały się w oficjalnych ujęciach prezentowanych przez polskie władze po 1989 roku. Analizując, kto i w jaki sposób pojawiał się w bohaterskich narracjach pamięci, artykuł prezentuje ponadto refleksje dotyczące tego, czy w polskiej potranzycyjnej polityce pamięci zwyciężyły afirmatywne opowieści o czasach minionych. Rozważa również funkcjonalność narracji o bohaterach w polskiej przestrzeni publicznej, zastanawiając się nad ich przyczynami oraz konsekwencjami.

This article presents fragments of the work plan of African and Asian Affairs Department of Poland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It describes the goals of the Polish foreign policy in relation to the Arab countries, which were to be carried out by the Polish People's Republic in 1969. The text of the work plan is presented in its original form, which is consistent with the typescript stored in the Archives of the Foreign Ministry. The results of the analysis are located in the footnotes of the document.
