This study is focused on street names and historical maps of the 19th and 20th century as crucial sources providing information about hydronymy, its development and changes. This is illustrated with the region of Ostrava (the Czech Republic). There were large pond systems in the 16th and 17th centuries. Some of them are still maintained, others partially or completely disappeared from the landscape.
