Wpływ procesów suburbanizacyjnych w obszarze metropolitalym Wilna na stan polskiej mniejszości narodowej

The paper shows the historical background of the formation of the Polish national minority in the metropolitan region of Vilnius and the changes that are taking place today in this community. Political, social and demographic changes related to the independence of Lithuania and the freedom of migration have caused in the last two decades very significant changes in the ethnic landscape of the metropolitan area of Vilnius, which will have a significant impact on the state of the Polish national minority in Lithuania in the future. These changes consist mainly of the loss of the status of the largest community in some municipalities of Vilnius region and the threat of this process in subsequent municipalities. The main factors leading to this state are the disproportions in wealth between Poles and Lithuanians, a strong stream of migration from Vilnius to the suburbs, and from rural areas abroad.

Artykuł przedstawia tło historyczne ukształtowania się polskiej mniejszości narodowej w regionie meropolitalnym Wilna i zmiany, jakie zachodzą współcześnie wśród tej społeczności. Zmiany polityczne, społeczne i demograficzne związane z niepodległością Litwy oraz swobodą migracji spowodowały w ostatnich dwóch dekadach bardzo istotne zmiany w etnicznym krajobrazie obszaru metropolitalnego Wilna, które będą miały istotny wpływ na stan polskiej mniejszości narodowej na Litwie w przyszłości. Zmiany te polegają głównie na utracie statusu największej najliczebniejszej społeczności w niektórych gminach podwileńskich oraz zagrożeniu tym procesem w kolejnych gminach. Głównymi czynnikami prowadzącymi do tego stanu są dysproporcje w zamożności pomiędzy Polakami i Litwinami, silny strumień migracji z Wilna na przedmieścia, oraz z rejonów wiejskich za granicę.

The paper describes political support for Polish political parties as aggregated into four principal options (left-wing, liberal, populist, and right-wing) as well as flux in the electorate in Małopolskie voivodship in the last two decades in order to show regions of electoral stability that tend to do favour the four principal social and political options. Stabilization of cultural and political identity and gradual changes therein are shown by comparing dominant political options with selected social and economic data. The comparison should also allow for a reasonable prediction of future gains and losses for each political option.
