Article presents life path of Jan Kruczek – during the Second Polish Republic – police officer battling common banditism and actions of communist groups, during the World War II Kriminalpolizei officer and also a co-worker of the Government Delegation to the country, commander of the State Security Corps in the Rzeszów district. After Red Army invaded Rzeszów district, Kruczek was engaged in the structure of the National Party, providing distribution ofthe illegal press and performing intelligence activities. For his exemplary service to the Polish State during the Second Republic of Poland, as well as his underground activities during the German occupation and the Lublin Committee he faced undeserved repressions during Polish People’s Republic. After the fall of communism, Jan Kruczek “Nurt” should be a model tothe current officers protecting the nation’s safety. Undertaking underground activities at the expense of the personal happiness places him in the pantheon of people who for the sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Poland. Based on the acts created by the communist security apparatus, this article brings closer the realities of the functioning of the independence conspiracy in the period of the People’s Republic of Poland, taking into account – so difficult to grasp – personal relations.

This article presents the state of research and new research questions concerning the Military Faculties (before 1927 called the Agitation Departments in the Army), which were part of the communist groups that operated in Poland before World War II (KPRP/KPP, KPZU and KPZB). It traces the research on the actions undertaken by the Polish military counterintelligence services involved in combatting these organisations. The research from before and after 1989 presented the destructive activities of communists in the ranks of the Polish Army, which consisted of acts aimed to lower its defence potential by inciting soldiers and preparing them to switch their loyalty to the side of the Soviet Union in the event of an armed conflict. These studies, however, have not been treated seriously.

The article presents the state of research and research postulates concerning the repression of religious orders and congregations of the Latin Rite of the Metropolis of Lviv in the years 1939-1950. It was written on the basis of a catalogue of repression which highlights personal and institutional repressions, not excluding the fact that in some cases they could appear together. In his research postulates the author notes that it is impossible to describe the history of the Church in isolation from the history of the Poles living in Borderlands. The research taking advantage, to a greater extent, of church archives - both diocesan as well as belonging to particular male and female religious orders-would be especially helpful for that purpose. Having access to archives produced by the Soviet secret service is crucial to the development of research on the history of Borderlands, the functioning of the Roman Catholic Church and repression committed against it.

Father Zbigniew Bonawentura Fróg (1920–1986), a priest of the Przemyśl diocese since 1943, a personal information source of the Security Service, and finally its clandestine officer, played a major role in this endeavour. In interwar Poland, one of the tasks of the military counterintelligence was to combat communist influence, which was rightly judged as one of the most eminent dangers that threatened the state. The Communist Party of Poland carried out its sabotage through the Central Military Department, which the Polish counterintelligence considered an integral part and tool of the General Staff of the Soviet Army. This article discusses the activity of a communist cell in the 14th Infantry Regiment stationed in Włocławek, as well as the liquidation of that cell as a result of cooperation between the Polish State Police, military counterintelligence and gendarmerie. It also discusses the court proceedings against members of the cell at the Military Regional Court no. 8 in Grudziądz.
