The Latin collection of short moral tales Magnum speculum exemplorum was translated into Polish and published five times between 1612 and 1691. The article focuses on counting the number of exempla in each early printed edition. The results obtained clarify and supplement the data included in recent encyclopaedias. The texts of the Wielkie zwierciadło przykładów were classified into typological groups, introductory texts to each thematic section were counted separately. A comparison of the textual composition of all editions was made. The total corpus of their texts as well as those newly introduced to the 1633 edition were determined.
