Hybridná vojna predstavuje v posledných rokoch jeden z najpoužívanejších pojmov v oblasti vojenstva a bezpečnosti, zvlášť po vypuknutí konfliktu na Ukrajine. Objavuje sa veľmi frekventovane nielen vo vedeckých a odborných vojenských alebo bezpečnostných publikáciách, štúdiách alebo článkoch v rôznych časopisoch, ale aj v správach, reportážach alebo debatách mimo vojenskú a bezpečnostnú komunitu. Mohlo by sa zdať, že ide o nový pojem, nový odborný termín či dokonca nový typ vojny, ale nie je to tak. V žiadnom prípade nejde o nový fenomén ani o nový typ konfliktu, ale len o akési znovuobjavenie tohto pojmu a jeho spopularizovanie po ruskej anexii Krymu na jar 2014. Na druhej strane, väčšia časť širšej verejnosti nevie čo tento pojem presne znamená, a preto sa autor článku zaoberá týmto problémom a prostredníctvom výsledkov získaných výskumom sa snaží vysvetliť podstatu riešenej problematiky.

Hybrid war represents one of the most used terms in the area of military and security affairs in the last years, especially after the outbreak of conflict in Ukraine. It appears still more frequently not only in scientific or specialized military or security publications, studies or articles, but also in various journals, news, reports or debates out of military or security community. It might be seemed that it is a new term or even new type of conflict, but it is not. Hybrid war is really no new phenomenon, it is known for many years; however, after the Russian annexation of Crimea, it is much more popular and used. On the other hand, the majority of wider public do not know what the mentioned term exactly represents, and that is the reason why an author of the article deals with this topic and, through gained results of the research, tries to explain the essence of examined problem.

Armed conflicts represent an inseparable part of the development of human civilisation from its beginning till today. Regardless the type of conflict, intrastate or international, their destructive power is tremendous, and therefore they cause enormous human, economic, social, environmental and further damages. As the number of conflicts, the destructiveness of used weapons and weapons systems, the number of casualties and amount of caused damages has grown, conflicts have become one of the most intensive and serious global security problems. For that reason, the research of conflicts has become an inseparable part of security science.

Ozbrojené konflikty predstavujú neoddeliteľnú súčasť vývoja ľudskej civilizácie od jej vzniku až po súčasnosť. Bez ohľadu na to, či ide o konflikty vnútroštátne alebo medzištátne, ich deštrukčná sila je obrovská a preto spôsobujú enormné ľudské, hospodárske, ekonomické, sociálne, environmentálne a ďalšie škody. Tým ako rástol počet konfliktov, ako rástla ničivosť v nich používaných zbraní a zbraňových systémov a ako rástol počet ich obetí a objem spôsobených škôd, stali sa jedným z najintenzívnejšie vnímaných globálnych bezpečnostných problémov. Aj z tohto dôvodu sa problematika skúmania konfliktov stala neoddeliteľnou súčasťou bezpečnostného výskumu.
