Continuing his previous considerations (Ibid. 2006 no 3-4) the author presents Rubczynski's conceptions concerning historiography of the philosophy, comprehensive understanding the domain, its subject, aim, and research methods. Undoubtedly, a way of understanding the philosophy to a high degree determines essence of the notions. That is why in the beginning he is presenting Rubczynski's conceptions concerning the domain and its history. A whole is focusing on the central point of the conceptions that shapes a kind of enunciation about intellectual, moral and aesthetic development in the spiritual life of the society. Structure of the presentation reveals a philosophical system that was created by Rubczynski according to the real idealism principles. In compliance with real idealism, a starting point for the philosophy should be epistemology that is establishing a theory of behaviour - ethics, which is not only resulting from the moral life facts, but is also formulating enunciations concerning both obligations and laws that determine the reality. These ethical enunciations have hypothetical nature solely (perfect element). And metaphysics is to bring the enunciations to the highest degree of probability on the ground of exact sciences' results (real element). In Rubczynski's opinion, history of philosophy is a kind of continuous progress of ideas that tends towards a fuller recognition of natural order of the reality. Historiography of the philosophy is not only to present the conceptions, but also to show their development, and its elements against a background of the spiritual life as a whole. This fact, then, is firmly connected with a necessity of taking up scientific research with insight and great care.

A subject of author's studies, based on the analyses of the available objective and subjective bibliography, is person and work of Witold Rubczynski - a professor of philosophy. The separate source are the materials coming from Rubczynski's Archives preserved in Jagiellonian Library. Moreover, the bibliography of Rubczyński's papers, prepared by the author, not only makes numerous additions to the hitherto existing critical analyses, but also rectifies many mis-statements . In the part entitled 'Results of the Research Work' he points out the role and significance of the author of 'Philosophy of the Spiritual Life' in the interwar period, and his share in the development of historiography of the philosophy in Poland. While treating of a not very ample objective bibliography, he is concentrating on the fact that a pioneer of the Polish philosophical medieval studies was forgotten. The author is also focusing on the issues concerning the interpretation of Rubczynski's views. The main reason for the facts that are mentioned above is, in his opinion, a lack of the comprehensive critical analysis of the scientific output of Rubczynski. Both subjective and objective bibliography was added to the article.

The article is the third serial fragment of author's doctor's thesis entitled 'Witold Rubczynski as a Philosopher and Historiographer of the Philosophy' (for previous parts see 'Quarterly Journal of the History of Science and Technology' no. 3-4(20060 and no. 1(2007)). In the paper he is presenting works of Witold Rubczynski that concern European medieval philosophy, its range, method, findings, and their immediate interest. As a pioneer of the Polish philosophical medieval studies Rubczynski takes up his research works in the latter part of the 19th century. Since then European medieval studies started to develop. The main matter of his interests was Neo-Platonism, and its reception in the Middle Ages. The author of Neo-Platonic Studies included in his searches attainable literature concerning the trend, and manuscriptal sources as, for example, treatise of the 13th century entitled 'De intelligentiis', and two commentaries on 'Elementatio Theologica' of Proclos, Bertold of Moosburgh (13th c.) and Wilhelm Moerbecke (14th c.). The method that was mainly based on philosophical analysis of the manuscripts' contents, and which was used by Rubczynski, sometimes turned out to be deceptive. However, getting more precise results was not possible as far as the searches' results of that time are concerned. Today we realize that it was necessary to engage a large number of researchers in making an effort to obtain an appropriate solution. The scientific research of Rubczynski overthrew the common among medievalists opinion telling that philosophy in the 13th and 14th century was strongly dominated by Aristotelism. The searches also showed that Neo-Platonism was very vivid all the Middle Ages. Moreover, the trend had not only influenced scholastic philosophy, but also cleared the ground for modern philosophy. Such image of the epoch was confirmed by ensuing researchers, whose works were published in the 1960s.
