The article discusses forms of representation and contextualization of Bruno Schulz’s death in biographical narratives by Jerzy Ficowski, Artur Sandauer, Janusz Rudnicki and Wiesław Budzyński. The author of the article examines relations between Ficowski’s approach and the latter, analyzes narrators positions in context of Raul Hilberg’s triangle: perpetrator–victim–bystander, considers strategies of interpretation of biographical subject’s death in light of subject’s whole life.

Artykuł przedstawia krytyczną analizę biografii Bolesława Prusa Prus. Śledztwo biograficzne autorstwa Moniki Piątkowskiej. Autor artykułu omawia założenia biograficznej metody Piątkowskiej oparte na uznaniu twórczości prozatorskiej Prusa za niepodważalne źródło wiedzy o jego życiu. Demaskuje również postulaty autorki na temat tego, czym powinna być literatura (ekspresywistyczna teoria dzieła literackiego). Demitologizacyjna biografia Piątkowskiej odsłaniająca codzienność Prusa nie oddaje bohaterowi sprawiedliwości, lecz usiłuje nawiązać więź z czytelnikiem poprzez dostarczenie plotki i ekscesu.

Article presents critical analysis of Bolesław Prus’s biography Prus. Śledztwo biograficzne (biographical investigation) by Monika Piątkowska. Author of the article discuss asumptions of Piątkowska’s biographical method based on arbitrary recognition that fictional works by Prus are undisputable, absolutely reliable source of knowledge about his life as well as disclose biographer’s attitude on what real literature is supposed to be (expressivistic theory of literary work). Demitologising biography by Piątkowska does not do justice to its subject, but attempt to meet readers desire for gossip and excess.

Poprzez analizę doświadczenia materialnego, przestrzennego, roli fotograficznych ekfraz ukazuje oryginalność biograficznej praktyki Marchewki. Ów nowatorski sposób uprawiania biografistyki cechuje się szczególnym zaakcentowaniem fizycznego, cielesnego wymiaru doświadczenia biografa, wskazując na inny rodzaj epistemologii – ucieleśnionej, angażującej nie tylko emocje i umysł, lecz także ciało.

The article concerns problems of materiality in Ślady nieobecności. Poszukiwanie Ireny Szelburg [Traces of Absence. In Search for Irena Szelburg] by Anna Marchewka. The author of the article reveals originality of Marchewka’s biographical practice interpreting records of material experience, spatial experience and photographic ekphrasis. The main feature of this new mode of biographical writing is the stress on physical, somatic aspect of biographer’s experience, which indicates different kind of epistemology – embodied, engaging body as much as mind and emotions.

The purpose of this article is to analyse the process of settling accounts with the communist lawlessness with particular emphasis on the nationalization. Polish legislator has not yet adopted a comprehensive regulation on the compensation for property damages caused after the Second World War. For the last twenty years a redress has been made on a very limited scale, mainly by the administrative courts. The article refers to a controversial decision of the Polish Constitutional Tribunal made in 2010, in which the Tribunal undermined the possibility of challenging the post war expropriation cases before administrative courts. This decision is discussed in terms of violating the principle of citizens’ trust in state.
